Some people volunteer. Some people lead. And then there’s Audrey. 💙

For the past two years, Audrey has served as our PTA President, but her journey started as Secretary and later Communications Chair. Through every role, she has worked tirelessly to make our PTA better for students, families, volunteers, and staff.

If you’ve ever wondered how events run smoothly, there’s a good chance Audrey had a hand in making it happen. Behind the scenes, she spent countless late nights planning, troubleshooting, organizing logistics, answering messages, and making sure every detail was covered.

Under Audrey’s leadership, our PTA updated important processes and documents, established a clear mission, vision, and goals, and built a strong foundation that will continue to benefit our school for years to come. She also helped build not one, but TWO incredible Boards of Directors that have made so many amazing things possible.

And somehow, she still found time to be an Art Docent and Room Parent for both of her children’s classrooms. Audrey is an incredibly talented crafter who pours her heart into everything she creates.

To say we’ll miss Audrey is an understatement. Her leadership, creativity, dedication, and heart have left a lasting mark on our school community.

Thank you, Audrey, for every meeting, every event, every late night, every craft project, and every ounce of heart you poured into DEE PTA. 💛

P.S. Audrey is officially banned from serving on the PTA Board for one whole year so she can enjoy a well-deserved break. But if you see us trying to lure her back with coffee and snacks next year, mind your business. 😉

This one’s for our amazing Events Chair, Marisol! 💛

If you attended any of our big events this year, chances are you experienced her creativity, hard work, and magic firsthand. From the beloved Boo Fest 👻 — coordinating food trucks, DJs, volunteers, decorations, and transforming the gym into an unforgettable glow dance floor — to Winter FUNderland ❄️, where she partnered with our specialists to create a fun winter experience for all students, to making 5th grade promotion extra special with leis, treats, and a beautifully designed photo backdrop… Marisol truly poured her heart into every detail.

She first joined the PTA as our Hospitality Chair and stepped up this year as Events Chair, bringing so many creative ideas to life along the way. And somehow, on top of all of that, she’s also a regular volunteer in both of her children’s classrooms and always one of the first people ready to help whenever PTA needs an extra hand.

Her creativity, dedication, and positive energy made such a huge impact on our school community this year. We are so incredibly thankful for everything she’s done for our students and families. 💙

We will surely miss you, Marisol!

🌟 Congratulations to Our 2026 Golden Acorn Award Recipient, Kyle Dillon! 🌟

This morning at our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, we had the honor of recognizing Kyle Dillon as DEE’s 2026 Golden Acorn Award recipient.

If you’ve spent any time around PTA events, chances are you’ve seen Kyle in action, although more often than not, she’s working quietly behind the scenes making everything happen. As our PTA Treasurer and longtime PTA Executive Board member, Kyle is the person who keeps the wheels turning. From organizing event logistics and coordinating countless details to running errands, stepping into whatever role needs support, and helping solve problems before most of us even know they exist, Kyle does it all with incredible efficiency, humility, and heart.

Kyle’s impact on our school community extends far beyond her official title. She is the kind of volunteer every organization hopes to have: dependable, selfless, hardworking, and always willing to jump in wherever help is needed. So much of what our PTA accomplishes each year is possible because of the countless hours she dedicates behind the scenes.

Kyle truly is the engine that helps keep our PTA running, and we are so grateful for her years of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to DEE students, staff, and families.

Please join us in celebrating and congratulating Kyle on this well deserved recognition! 👏

And a heartfelt thank you to all of this year’s Golden Acorn nominees. Your dedication, generosity, and service make our DEE community stronger every day.

Every team needs a hype person, and for the last two years, ours has been Katie. 💙

If you’ve ever stopped scrolling because a PTA post looked amazing, admired our spirit wear, loved a bulletin board display, or thought, “Wow, PTA is really stepping up their game,” there’s a good chance Katie had something to do with it.

As our Communications Chair, Katie helped completely refresh and rebrand our PTA with a fresh logo, cohesive themes, eye-catching graphics, and social media that made our PTA feel fun, welcoming, and relevant. She has an incredible ability to take an idea and turn it into something memorable.

Katie is the kind of person who sees possibilities where the rest of us see a blank page. Whether it was designing spirit wear, creating graphics, hand-painting banners, photographing every student for our black-and-white portrait fundraiser, or helping bring our vision to life, she always found a way to make things feel polished, exciting, and uniquely DEE.

She was also one of the creative minds behind updating our PTA mission, vision, and goals, and played a huge role in both of our Fun Runs.

Beyond all of her talents, Katie is simply fun to be around. She brings creativity, humor, positivity, and energy to everything she does. We’re incredibly lucky she decided to step up and share her talents with our PTA because her impact can be seen all around our school.

Artist. Designer. Photographer. Branding expert. Volunteer. Problem solver. Hype squad captain. Katie truly did it all.

Thank you for sharing your talent, creativity, and countless hours with our school community. You made PTA look cool, and more importantly, helped tell the story of all the amazing things happening at DEE.

We will miss you so much, Katie! ✨

(P.S. This post was definitely not written by Katie. We repeat: NOT written by Katie. 😉)

Some people don’t just volunteer… they become part of the heart of the PTA. 💛

This spotlight is for THREE incredible women who helped make this year so special for our students, staff, and families: Kayla, Sara, & Mahina! ✨

📚 Kayla (better known to students as Mrs. Hamilton) brought the energy ALL year long! As our Fundraising Chair, she helped organize our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Explorer Cup Fun Run, and made it fun, exciting, and engaging for our students from start to finish. But her magic didn’t stop there…as our librarian, she transformed the library into a cozy, welcoming space with her seasonal tree themes, twinkling string lights, and fun read-alouds during library time. She also spearheaded our Spring Book Drive that brought in 600+ books for our library and school book vending machine!

🎨 Sara has been one of the steady, dependable faces of our PTA for years. Alongside Amy, she helped bring our Art Docent Program back to life and helped pioneer the beloved Art Walk our community now looks forward to each year. This year, she stepped into the Original Works Chair role and helped raise over $1,000 for our school! On top of that, she’s also the lead 5th grade room parent coordinating parties, activities, and celebrations like a pro. Organized, dependable, and always the first to jump in and help…Sara has truly done it all.

🎉 Mahina has been the glue behind our Room Parent Program for the past TWO years! She refreshed the program and made sure room parents always felt supported and prepared. From helpful check-ins to guides for party planning, tie-dye days, classroom decorations, and room parent tips & tricks…she created such a welcoming and supportive system for volunteers. Her behind-the-scenes work made such a huge difference for so many classrooms.

These three have poured so much time, creativity, and heart into our school community, and DEE PTA is better because of them.

We will truly miss you all so much!

Hooray for hands-on science in the classroom! This week, all 5th grade classes had the opportunity to engage with a “Burke Box” from Seattle’s Burke Museum. This traveling trunk is filled will real fossils and specimens, reference materials, and activity supplies so students can learn more about whales before their upcoming field trip to Saltwater State Park.
