ED Project Zambia

ED Project Zambia Providing educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Zambia The lack of education keeps them in a cycle of poverty.

ED Project was created by Rick and Cathy Hatcher when they saw the need to bring education to underprivileged children in Zambia, Africa. The ED Project is targeting these areas of poverty and bringing educational opportunities to the children. For many years Rick and Cathy have been going on mission trips to Africa bringing the word of God and the importance of what an education can do for God’s

children. As retired educators they now spend several months each year working in rural communities training early learning teachers. English is the national language of Zambia, but most Zambian children grow up speaking their native language and never make it past the 6th grade. The Goal of the ED Project is to help Zambian children learn to speak, read and write English by providing early learning opportunities in village communities. Zambian students test poorly compared to neighboring countries such as South Africa. Only 6 out of 10 children even reach the 6th grade. With only 3 out of 10 being able to read.
