🌪️ HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS — BE READY NOW

With the potential for a hurricane or tropical storm to impact our area, now is the time to prepare—not when the storm is at our doorstep.

Here are a few things every Holmes County resident should do:

✅ Stay informed — Monitor trusted weather sources and official updates from Holmes County Emergency Management and local officials.

⛽ Fuel up — Make sure your vehicles and generators have fuel before conditions deteriorate.

💧 Stock up — Have plenty of water, food, medications, batteries, flashlights, and other essential supplies on hand.

📱 Charge your devices — Keep cell phones, power banks, and other important devices fully charged.

🏠 Secure your property — Bring in outdoor furniture, decorations, grills, and anything else that could become a projectile in strong winds.

🌳 Check your surroundings — Clear loose limbs and debris around your home if it is safe to do so.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Have a family plan — Know where you will go and how you will communicate if conditions worsen or evacuation becomes necessary.

🐶 Don’t forget your pets — Make sure they have food, water, medications, and a safe place to stay.

⚠️ Don’t wait until the last minute. Supplies can become difficult to find and roads can become dangerous as a storm approaches.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management, EMS, Fire Rescue, and our county and city partners are preparing and monitoring the situation closely.

Seniors Beware

🚨 SCAM ALERT — PLEASE SHARE! 🚨

Over the past week or so, we have had several Holmes County residents contact us after being scammed out of thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, these scammers continue to target our citizens, and we want to help prevent anyone else from becoming a victim.

NEVER:
❌ Give your bank account or credit card information to someone who calls you unexpectedly.
❌ Send anyone gift cards as payment.
❌ Send Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, or other forms of currency to someone you don’t know.
❌ Mail cash or send money through electronic payment methods because someone demands it over the phone.

If someone calls you promising something that sounds too good to be true — IT IS PROBABLY A SCAM!

We are seeing our citizens lose their hard-earned money to scammers, many of whom are operating from outside the United States. It is heartbreaking to see people work so hard for their money only to have someone steal it through a scam.

When in doubt, STOP. Don’t send money. Don’t give out information. Call someone you trust and verify it first.

Please share this message with your parents, grandparents, family members, friends, and neighbors. A simple conversation could save someone thousands of dollars.

🚨 Imagine receiving a call from someone who sounds exactly like your grandchild. They say there has been an emergency and they need money immediately.

Scammers can use artificial intelligence to imitate familiar voices. They may also use manipulated images or videos to make fraudulent messages appear convincing.

If someone unexpectedly asks you for money or personal information, hang up and contact that person directly using a number you already know and trust.

Do not rely on the voice alone to confirm who is calling.

Stop. Verify. Then Act.
