Today was an important day for Holmes County and our surrounding communities as we welcomed Governor Ron DeSantis and Secretary of Commerce Alex Kelly and recognized the importance of continued investment in rural Florida.

A major highlight was the presentation of a $1.5 million grant to the City of Bonifay for the Decon Road Sewer Extension Project. This investment will help extend critical infrastructure, support future growth and development, and create opportunities related to workforce housing, public health, environmental protection, and economic development.

Another important investment of $75,000 will support Holmes County GIS mapping and planning capabilities. Better data and mapping tools will help us understand our infrastructure, properties, assets, and development opportunities while giving local leaders and economic development partners the information needed to make informed decisions and prepare Holmes County for future growth.

These investments directly support the mission of the Holmes County Development Commission.

Economic development is about more than recruiting businesses. It is about building the infrastructure, planning tools, partnerships, and capacity necessary to create opportunities and position Holmes County for long-term success.

We appreciate the local leadership and community partners who continue working together to move Holmes County forward.

This is economic development in action - and we are excited about what these investments mean for the future of Holmes County.

The Holmes County Development Commission is accepting applications for Executive Director, a full-time leadership role responsible for driving economic development, business recruitment, grant management, and strategic planning in Holmes County.

Salary: $50,000 – $70,000 commensurate with experience
Deadline: April 30, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. CT, or until filled

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree or five years of relevant experience, a valid Florida driver's license, and successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screening.

HCDC, in partnership with the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners, has completed the sale of an 86-acre property in the City of Bonifay to Busy Bee, a family-owned business headquartered in Lake City, FL. The project promises significant economic growth for the region, with plans to develop a 55,000-square-foot travel center and additional commercial properties.

The development includes a new Busy Bee travel center featuring extensive food options, merchandise, and the cleanest restrooms along Interstate 10, creating approximately 100 jobs. Beyond the travel center, the project will develop the remaining 60+ acres with hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments.

Holmes County closes on the sale of 86 acres to the family-owned business headquartered in Lake City, FL.
