Lamar County has come under attack by yet more uneducated people who are reacting, not from thought, but from HATE. The portrait of Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Monument on the court house grounds are being discriminated against. History, good or bad, is still History and can't be regulated out of our memory. In this land, today, there is not one person who was ever held a slave. The people who wish to discriminate against these monuments are only wanting to further the discord of racism and hatred. If by removing these symbols of our History because they remind someone of a past, in which they did not live, then all symbols of that past must be removed. Abraham Lincoln, U. S. Grant, Frederick Douglass, even the statue of Bass Reeves are reminders of that terrible time period. The very flag of our country, the US Flag stood for slavery for over 80 years. Sure these men and symbols were on the winning side of that war, but they still are reminders just as the picture of Lee and the monument on the court house grounds and if one is to be removed ALL should be removed.
