We are getting close to the end of the hatch. Tomorrow or Monday, we should empty out the hatchery. THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped this year and THANK YOU to all our sponsors and members, new and multiyear sponsors and members. Your dues and sponsorships keep what we do possible. One year I will try to figure out the man hours that go into completing one hatchery season. All those hours are volunteered.

9:30 tonight we did a hatchery check, to clean filters and general look see. Jar one has decided that tonight is the night. If it keeps hatching at this rate it will be empty in the morning.

Oh, how things change in 24 hours, yesterday 6 jars with swimming fry. Today 17 jars with swimming fry. Jars 18 -27 are just a day behind jar 17 as being in the hatchery. Not a heavy hatch but a normal slow start in the first few jars. First picture shows the screens removed from jars 1-16. 2nd and 3rd pictures are in the tank room. We have the jars emptying into 4 tanks overnight. all the lighting was completed today. We are ready for the big push when it happens. We know it is coming we just do not know when exactly.

We noticed a few fry swimming in jars 1 & 2 around 2:30 today. By 4:30 we had swimmers in jars 1 through 6. Not a lot of action yet. But another good sign of things to ready start up in the next day or two. If we have more sun than clouds Saturday and Sunday. I'm thinking Sunday afternoon jars 1 and 2 will be hatching pretty heavy.

Day 13 for the first eggs in the hatchery. First picture is day 1. eggs are bright golden because of the yoke in the egg. The little fish is just a speck in the egg at this time. Day 13 eggs are almost black because of the development of the fish body in the egg. At this time most of the yoke is used. By our water temperature calculations, the first few jars will start hatching in a few days. Water temperature is taken twice daily. We do this to estimate the hatch. We are ready just waiting for the big event.

Eggs at different stages of development in our jars. Starting with jar 1 at 11 days old to jar 31 at 5 days. By tomorrow we will see eyes in the first 3 jars with any magnification. All the jars are looking very good.

We pulled nets yesterday and did not fill the last jar all the way. With today's high winds it was just not safe to have a crew pulling fish from the nets. Not worth anyone getting hurt over. We are over 10,000,000 eggs in the hatchery. Winds are blowing across the lake at Cecil. The hatchery is sitting in 2 inches of water that was not there yesterday. Just the power of the wind blowing the high waters back into Cecil bay.

We pulled our nets today. We have filled 31 and 1/4 jars. We will post our numbers tomorrow of the total eggs in the hatchery and the amount of parent fish we used. After 6 days of netting and processing fish a break was needed. We will be at the hatchery tomorrow, Making sure the tanks are ready for when the hatch starts.
