Sadie Mae Foundation

Sadie Mae Foundation Sadie Mae Foundation Animal Rescue League Inc. is a non-profit (501c3) rescue organization. Still, we are always glad to speak with individual owners.

We are a small group of individuals, dedicated to rescuing animals from local shelters when they have run out of time and are in danger of euthanasia. The Sadie Mae Foundation partners with local pounds and shelters that must use euthanasia for various reasons, such as overcrowding. Our primary partnership is with the Hartford Pound, as dogs are only provided 10 days to be adopted before being eut

hanized. On occasion we will offer assistance to long distance pounds and shelters. Our organization typically does not accept animals that an individual owner is looking to surrender; however we have been known to make an exception when an animal is in danger or the animal's living conditions are such that immediate action must be taken in order to ensure the animal's safety. We can answer any questions an owner may have if s/he is being forced to give up an animal and we can also place a courtesy posting on Petfinder. We don't want these animals to end up in a local pound or abandoned on the street. Sadie Mae Foundation has limited shelter space, rented from a local kennel, and it is maintained by volunteers. Our volunteers evaluate our animals' personalities and temperaments. They care for the animals and provide necessary socialization. Foster homes are also a valuable resource in placing our animals in their permanent 'forever home'. We welcome foster families. If interested in fostering please visit our website and fill out an foster application.

Our friend Zeppelin from Protectors of Animals is still looking for his forever home. He’s a wonderful handsome smart big boy looking to be the only pet in the home.

One year ago today, we shared Zeppelin's story for the first time. From day one, this sweet, handsome hound has been a lover of people, gently taking treats and craving human interaction. At just 3 years old, we thought he'd be adopted in no time. But shelter life was lonely and overwhelming for Zeppelin, and despite his charisma, the days to find a family to adopt him turned into weeks. Thankfully, a kind-hearted volunteer offered to foster him, giving him the chance to thrive.

In his foster home, Zeppelin, lovingly nicknamed Zeppy has truly blossomed. He's incredibly smart, mastering new tricks with ease. He adores bully sticks, soaking up the sun, and going on his daily walks. He's housebroken, thrives on routine, and loves to snuggle-though he's been known to hog the bed because he just wants to be close to his people! Zeppy bonds deeply with those he loves, and while he'd need to be the only pet in the home, he promises to fill your heart and home with all the love you'll need. ❤️

Over the past year, we've shared more than 50 photos and videos of Zeppelin, and he's attended several meet-and-greet events. Everyone who meets him agrees: he's a fantastic dog!! Yet, he's still waiting for his future family to find him. We know the right person is out there for Zeppy. When that day comes, he'll be celebrated with a community of supporters and gifts from his care package that have been graciously donated in his honor:
• One free training session courtesy of POA to continue his progress
• A box of 12 stylish bow ties to keep him looking sharp all year by Woof Wear Bows
• A professional photoshoot by Christine Penney Photographer to capture treasured moments with his new family
•$25 gift card, bag of treats and a frisbee toy from The Ädelbrook Bark-ery who make amazing dog cakes and treats
• A handmade new collar from Sadie Mae's Corner to start his new journey looking his best

We all want the happily ever after for Zeppelin. And this picture speaks volumes. As volunteers, there's something deeply moving about seeing a picture of a dog sleeping peacefully. It's a rare and precious sight that captures what we wish for every shelter dog-a sense of safety, comfort, and the freedom to let their guard down. We can’t thank our fosters enough for giving dogs like Zeppelin this opportunity to feel loved. But foster homes are meant to be the stepping stone to being adopted. Let's make Zeppelin’s dream come true in finding his forever home. Please share his story and if you are interested in meeting Zeppelin go to poainc.org to fill out an application and contact his adoption counselor with any questions at [email protected]. 🐾

Have you ever thrown a party and been worried that no one would come? Worse yet, has a child you loved ever sent out invitations, put on their party hat, and had none of their classmates show up?

If so, you might know how we are feeling today. We had a meet and greet for Zeppelin, one of our longer term dogs, this morning. We posted it everywhere and Zeppy showed up in his Sunday best. He wagged his tail and tossed his ball. And absolutely nobody showed up to meet him. He doesn’t understand and had a great time, but we knew it was one more missed opportunity.

Zeppy is still happy and hopeful, and he still needs a home. So we aren’t giving up. And if you’ve ever worried about having no one show up at your party… ever screwed up your courage to ask your crush to dance only to have her say no… or ever cried quietly after finding out that your child ate lunch alone, we are asking you to help.

Zeppelin is a three year old hound mix. He loves people. He is housetrained. He rides well in the car. He is affectionate and joyful and looks amazing in a bow tie. He’s going to be the perfect companion in the right home. And he’s been looking for that for almost a year. Why? We aren’t sure. He does need to be the only pet in the home (no cats or dogs). His response to seeing other dogs results in him barking a lot. He also doesn’t know how big he is so kids over eight would be good because he will knock down the little ones with his exuberance. But we’ve had harder dogs find homes in shorter times.

We are certain that if the right person met our sweet boy they would take him home. But for some reason, the right person hasn’t seen a post about Zeppelin. So this is where you come in. Please spread the word. Send this out to anyone and everyone. Talk about him to the folks you know who might need a dog. Ask to meet him if you’ve been thinking about adopting and he sounds like a good fit.

We all know that it only takes one person if it is the right person. One person to say yes they would love to dance. One best friend to share your table at lunch. One person who will take Zeppelin home and love him forever. Help us find him that one person.

To find out more or to ask to meet Zepplin, please visit our website and fill out an adoption application, and email his adoption counselor Lauren at [email protected].

John Beyer
Lionel – One Year On

One year ago we made the extraordinarily difficult decision and let you leave our presence with the dignity you deserved. No day goes by where we do not think about you – from the morning until night, you made us happier. You had your routine – lounging in bed after we got up so you could have it all to yourself, some outside time, your meals (always with some primer), more outside time, treats and snacks, more primer during our meals, some rest on your beds throughout the house (or your crate), and finally the end of the day when we never knew which spot on the bed you would select as yours for overnight rest.

We miss how you would wait for the cutting board with beef or poultry shards and be so happy when it was placed down for you to enjoy. We miss your chest and tummy rub requests and your big stretches. We miss your chasing real or imagined wildlife, returning satisfied that you had protected us. We miss your desire to supervise work around the house; when it was outside, your supervisory responsibilities were combined with relaxing in the sunshine.

We were not perfect pet parents. We hope that we brought some calm into your middle and later years that you did not have in your early years. We hope you are enjoying cool, breezy, sunny days in your next life, filled with your favorite toys, treats, and comfortable places for you to rest. You held various regal titles as our king and prince; we will forever be your subjects in our hearts.
