*Shot and killed In The Line Of Duty*
Rest In Peace State Trooper Chad P. Dermyer
Virginia State Police - U.S. Marine Corps
End Of Watch: 03-31-16
Trooper Chad Dermyer, 37, was shot and killed by gunman at a Richmond bus station (details below). Born with a soul that has Courage to wear the Badge, Trooper Dermyer had been Saving, Serving, and Protecting the People as a Virginia State Trooper since November 2014, though his call to serve the People began even earlier ...

Trooper Dermyer defended these United States as a faithful and dedicated United States Marine. Following a distinguished four year career, Brother Chad was Honorably discharged and went on to serve as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer with the Jackson, Michigan PD. Brother Chad also worked for the City of Newport PD before finally settling in with the Virginia State Police. Trooper Dermyer, a Jackson, Mich. native, was first assigned to the Chesapeake Division’s Area 46 Office, which encompasses the cities of Newport News and Hampton. He had just recently transferred to the state police Counter-Terrorism and Criminal Interdiction Unit.

Courageous and Compassionate, Fearless and Fair, this Brave and Benevolent Son, Husband, Father, and Brother of Blue simply wanted to make a difference in his (not so small) corner of the world. May we take a part of Brother Chad's legacy with us when we enter into our daily arenas while continuing to create our own. May we vow to continue with the same Valor, Service, and Pride as this True Blue served. May we always remember State Trooper Chad P. Dermyer- U.S. Marine, for how he Lived As Only A Hero Could.

On Thursday, March 31, 2016, 1445hours, Virginia State Police were conducting a training exercise at the Richmond Greyhound bus station. Trooper Dermyer was among approximately a dozen state police troopers participating in a specialized training on criminal interdiction practices. They had completed the classroom instruction and were conducting field practicals at the bus station. Trooper Dermyer was in uniform. During the exercise, Trooper Dermyer encountered a male subject, as part of the training, just inside the entrance to the station on North Blvd. Trooper Dermyer began speaking with this individual when the male suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot Trooper Dermyer multiple times. As the male suspect continued firing his weapon, two state troopers, who were nearby, returned fire. The male suspect then moved into the terminal’s restaurant. The shooter continued to be combative as police took him into custody and EMS crews tried to render aid to him. Two civilians were also injured by gunfire. Trooper Dermyer, the two adult female civilians, and the suspect were all transported to VCU Medical Center. The suspect succumbed to his wounds. The two civilians are being treated non life-threatening injuries and are expected to be okay.

The City of Richmond Police Department immediately responded to the scene to assist State Police with securing the scene, interviewing witnesses and evidence collection. Additional law enforcement resources from the FBI, ATF, US Department of Homeland Security, US Marshals Service, and Henrico County Police responded to the scene to assist, as well. This is an ongoing investigation.

Sadly, and with heavy hearts, this proved to be our Brother's final battle ... VSP Trooper Chad P. Dermyer succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced at the VCU Medical Center, with family, both of blood and of Blue, by his side.

Chad leaves behind his beloved bride and two young children. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire extended Dermyer family, the Men and Women of the Virginia State Police, the City of Newport News and Jackson PDs, the Patriots of the United States Marines, the staff at VCUMC, to all who came running to assist, and to all whom have had the pleasure and the privilege of knowing and working along side this True Blue Hero. Our thoughts and prayers extend to the civilians wounded, their families, and to all who were on scene.

Our Brother, as you now patrol the Highways of Heaven may you continue your vigilant watch over us all as we carry on In Our Brother's Honor. We thank you for your service and for your sacrifices. We thank you for your life. Job Well Done Sir.

Rest In Peace VA State Trooper Chad P. Dermyer - U.S. Marine ... We Have The Watch From Here. SALUTE!

*Shot and killed In The Line Of Duty*
Rest In Peace Sergeant Jason M. Goodding
Seaside Police Department, Oregon
End Of Watch: 02-05-16
Sgt. Jason Goodding, 39, was shot and killed while serving a warrant (details below). Born with a soul that has Courage to wear the Badge, Sgt. Goodding had been Saving, Serving, and Protecting the People for 13 years.

Sworn in with the Seaside Police Department in April 2003, this True Blue was a favorite amongst his peers. Paying attention to detail, Sgt. Goodding kept his 'armor' polished, inside and out, representing us all in the finest of fashion. Brother Jason worked as a patrol officer, detective, and the last 7 years as a Patrol Sergeant. With his even-keeled demeanor and 'can-do' attitude, Brother Jason was an asset to not just the agency but to the citizens of the community as well.

Courageous and Compassionate, Sgt. Goodding loved his work and it showed in everything he was tasked to do. Whether backing up fellow Officers on a potentially volatile scene, or offering comforting words to citizens who needed, Brother Jason was always ready for whatever each new day would bring. Fearless and Fair, Sgt. Goodding was tough when needed be but always treated everyone with courtesy and respect. Brother Jason took time when dealing with the citizens. He would listen to all sides before coming to conclusions, knowing that not everything is always as it first appears. If an arrest was made, even then, this True Blue did so without bias. He had a job to do and he did it well but never let his confidence be confused with arrogance.

When not in uniform, Brother Jason loved nothing more than spending quality time with his beautiful wife and two young daughters. A dedicated husband and doting daddy, Jason made the most of their time together, creating life-long memories. His three 'girls' were his everything, his balance that got him through those 'not so good' days we all experience in this line of work. It will be up to us all to continue being there for Mrs. Goodding in the days, months, and years to come, and to help her continue raising our Brother's daughters with all they need.

With his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Portland State University, Brother Jason was known in his community as a mentor to the children and young adults. He was always available to volunteer and offered good advice to help them make good choices in life, as well as coaching several different sports teams within the Seaside area. He also seemed to always be 'right there' when one just needed an ear. A good man who truly loved People. A Hero who will be missed by so very many.

This Brave and Benevolent Son, Husband, Father, and Brother of Blue simply wanted to make a difference in his small corner of the world. May we take a part of Brother Jason's legacy with us when we enter into our daily arenas while continuing to create our own. May we vow to continue with the same Honor, Integrity, and Valor as this True Blue served. May we always remember of Sergeant Jason Goodding Lived As Only A Hero Could. May we vow to never forget the day his life was taken from us all ...

On Friday, 05 February 2016, 2122hours, Sgt. Goodding and another Seaside Officer spotted a wanted felon they were familiar with outside of a restaurant on Broadway Street and stopped him to serve an outstanding felony warrant. The suspect refused to show his hands after numerous commands, even though both Officers were in full uniform. The suspect began to struggle with the Officers and the Officers were forced to deploy a Taser to help subdue the suspect. The Taser had no affect and the suspect pulled out a gun and began shooting at the Officers. Sgt. Gooding was shot. The second Officer returned fire, shooting the suspect.

Sgt. Goodding and the suspect were transported to the hospital. The suspect later died.

Sadly, and with very heavy heart, this proved to be our Brother's final battle ... Sergeant Jason M. Goodding succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced a short time after arrival.

Jason leaves behind his beloved bride and two daughters. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire extended Goodding families, the Men and Women of the Seaside PD, the Clatsop SO and District Attorney's Office, the Oregon State Police, and to all whom have had the pleasure and the privilege of knowing and working along side this True Blue Hero. Special thoughts and prayers are with the second Officer and their family. (we will update their name once permitted)

Our Brother, as you now patrol the streets of Heaven may you continue your vigilant watch over us all as we carry on in the battles to come ... In Our Brother's Honor. We thank you for your service and for your sacrifice. We thank you for your life. Job Well Done Sir.

Rest in Peace Sergeant Jason M. Goodding ... We Have The Watch From Here. SALUTE!
