Lake George Land Conservancy

Lake George Land Conservancy The Lake George Land Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust in the southern Adirondacks of New York protecting the Lake George watershed.

Since its inception, LGLC’s land protection program has permanently protected more than 13,042 acres of Lake George wilderness and 49,517 feet of shoreline. Each piece of land has been protected for the benefit of all who enjoy swimming, boating and fishing in the crystal waters of Lake George, hiking and viewing the peaks and ridgelines of the Lake George mountains and forests, and drinking in th

e serenity of a cool, calm afternoon on the shores of Lake George. LGLC currently maintains nine preserves and properties that are open to the public with nearly 25 miles of trails for passive recreational use. In addition to its land protection program, LGLC’s other key programs include: land stewardship, including the monitoring and management of preserves and other protected properties; and public outreach and communications, through which LGLC offers free public hikes and educational seminars on local natural history, recruits and manages volunteers, and develops interpretive materials for display and for public speaking opportunities.

The LGLC is working to protect 431 acres at Mud Pond West.

This forested property includes a 55-acre wetland, streams that flow toward Lake George, and critical habitat for wildlife. Wetlands like Mud Pond act like giant sponges and filters that reduce erosion and trap pollutants before they reach Lake George.

Swipe to learn more about the Mud Pond West property and how you can help us safeguard the health and beauty of Lake George for generations to come.

Please join us in welcoming our 2026 summer interns, Claire Cygan and Matthew Sieber-Ford!

Thanks to support from the George C. Singer Educational Fund, Claire and Matthew will spend the summer learning about land conservation while helping advance the LGLC's mission to protect the Lake George watershed.

Claire, our Programs Intern, is an Environmental Studies student at SUNY ESF with a passion for environmental communication, outreach, and public engagement. Claire's love for the outdoors is rooted in a lifetime of hiking, swimming, and exploring all this region has to offer.

Matthew, our Stewardship Intern, recently completed his Associate's degree through SUNY ESF's Ranger School and brings valuable field experience in conservation, stewardship, and invasive species monitoring.

Throughout the summer, Claire and Matthew will gain hands-on experience across many aspects of conservation and nonprofit work while supporting our staff in the office, at events, and in the field.

Be sure to say hello if you see them this summer and help welcome them to the team!

As the watershed shifts into a new season, loons are settling into nesting territories across Adirondack lakes. Their dramatic sprint across the water before takeoff is more than a spectacle. Adapted for underwater hunting with dense bones and legs positioned far back on their bodies, loons often require a long stretch of open water to become airborne.

Thank you to everyone who joined us Monday for our volunteer work day at Peggy’s Point. Maintaining an accessible lakefront park takes regular effort from caring for the paths and gardens, to supporting ongoing work to protect the shoreline.

Many hands make light work, and we are grateful to everyone who spent part of their day helping care for this special place. Their work helps ensure Peggy’s Point remains a welcoming place for people to enjoy Lake George this summer and for more to come!
