How many building inspectors are truly open and proud of what they do?
When someone asks, “What do you do for work?” do you proudly say, “I’m a building inspector,” or do you say, “I work for the City/County,” and try to change the subject.
It’s time to change the narrative.
Firefighters run into burning buildings.
Builders, electricians, plumbers, and mechanical contractors take nothing and create something.
Designers create the structures that shape the future of our communities.
And they’re proud of it.
But what about the building inspector?
You help make sure a home is safe for a family you may never meet.
You help ensure that every store, restaurant, theater, school, and business people walk into is built with safety in mind.
You protect lives—not with a hose, a hammer, or a toolbox—but with knowledge, experience, integrity, and a commitment to doing the job right.
You may not build the building.
But you help make sure it stands.
So the next time someone asks, “What do you do?”
Stand a little taller, Look them in the eye.
And say it proudly tell them who you are and what you do for your community.
There is honor in we do.
There is purpose in what we do.
And there is something to be proud of.
