Croix International Marathon is a 26.2 mile road race for men and women 18 years and older. The marathon is a race with an enormous history. Its origin is associated with the ancient games of the Olympiad in Greece and the myth of the messenger Pheidippides running from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to deliver the news that the Athenians had won victory over the Persians. It is the only ev
ent designed for the Olympic Games, and walkers are invited, as well. Located in Bolingbrook, Illinois, the race director of The St. Croix International Marathon organized his first marathon in 2001. Croix International Marathon is the smallest official marathon in the world and the first marathon in the world to be run in the "New Millennium." It was, for several years, the first marathon run in the world each year until the date change.
