Trees Idaho is headed to Open Streets Boise!

Join us this Sunday, September 27, for a day of walking, biking, rolling, and exploring the Collister neighborhood, along Catalpa Drive. We’re excited to partner with Woodland Empire to give away 60 small trees.

Find the green Trees Idaho tent across from Catalpa Park and spin the wheel for your chance to take home a tree for your yard. We’ll have small catalpas, ginkgos, and a few other tree varieties up for grabs.

Join us in welcoming Alyssa Uhl, Trees Idaho’s new Program Manager!

Alyssa is joining us at an exciting time as Trees Idaho continues to expand across Idaho. In her new role, she’ll help lead and grow our work statewide, building connections with communities, volunteers, and partners as we bring Trees Idaho’s programs to more places.

Get to know Alyssa:

Alyssa Uhl is a community educator and natural resource professional dedicated to fostering connections between people and the natural environment. Most recently, Alyssa served as the Community Volunteer Specialist for Boise Parks & Recreation. In this position she led the community education and volunteer-powered management program for 20 miles of Boise River Greenbelt riparian area and 10 native pollinator gardens. She is eager to continue building partnerships around community urban forest stewardship with Trees Idaho!

Alyssa grew up in the temperate rainforest of Portland, Oregon and moved to the high desert of Fort Collins, Colorado for her undergraduate degree. After working for the City of Fort Collins as a water educator, she moved to Idaho’s subalpine forest to pursue a master’s of natural resources at the University of Idaho McCall Field Campus. Now nestled in the sagebrush steppe, Alyssa enjoys sharing meals with friends, seasonal searches for native blooms, riding her bike, finding cold water to jump in with her partner Andrew, and goofing off with her nieces & nephews.

Welcome to the Trees Idaho team, Alyssa!

Say hi to Alyssa at [email protected]!

🌳 INDUSTRY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Double J Tree Service, LLC

In addition to joining our Industry Partner network in 2026, Double J Tree Service supports our Community Tree Care Program, connecting professional tree care with communities that need it most. The Double J team holds credentials including ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Urban Forest Professional, and ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).

We asked Justin a few questions about his work and vision for Idaho’s urban forests!

🌲 Tell us a little about your company and the work you do in Idaho.

Established in 2019, we provide science based tree management and mitigation solutions.

🌲 What got you interested in tree care, and what do you enjoy most about the work?

As a young man I was introduced to this industry, I found my way back into the industry after practicing many different trades (US Army Medic, Hard hat Commercial Diver, Cell phone tower Installations).

🌲 What’s one thing you wish more homeowners or communities knew about caring for their trees?

How tree selection can dictate the long term outcome of an Urban Forest. Pruning and Plant Health Care for trees can bring an otherwise condemned tree to within an acceptable risk threshold.

A healthy tree starts at the root system.

🌲 Why do you think professional tree care is important for the health of our urban forests?

It improves overall quality of life, mental health, energy retention/sinks, and the list goes on into perpetuity. The Urban Forests are being deforested due to fear mongering, and lack of understanding of general tree physiology and biology. The rate at which this is being done is not sustainable.

🌲 What are you most excited about when it comes to the future of Idaho’s urban forests?

We continue to see positive community outreach within the State Government (ID Dept. of lands), and City of Boise, allowing funding to be opened up for PROPER tree care. The professional development amongst some arborists within the Treasure Valley over the last 4 years has been outstanding, and I know it will only get better!
