Before comes to a close, we want to say thank you. 💙

This month has been about raising awareness, sharing stories, and coming together through the power of community for a mission that matters deeply in our world today.

Throughout A Million in May, people across the country have come together to support su***de prevention. Every contribution, no matter the size, and every message of encouragement and act of kindness have helped strengthen a community that believes no one should face the darkness of mental health struggles alone.

As we enter the final days of A Million in May, we invite you to stand together with us one more time. Make a gift at afsp.org/millioninmay

Sharing your story is a powerful tool in su***de prevention. 💙

An AFSP-funded study by Jane Harness, D.O. analyzed filmed interviews of individuals who came close to su***de yet did not make an attempt. The research showed that participants felt understood, more hopeful, or more likely to seek help after viewing.

For people who have lost someone to su***de, grief is complex. It doesn’t simply end after one year. For many, it deepens and evolves over time. 💙

The Long-Term Survivors of Su***de Loss Summit is for individuals five or more years beyond their loss who are seeking understanding, community, and healing. But for many loss survivors, cost remains a barrier.

Today only, we’re launching a one-day challenge to help change that. Thanks to a generous anonymous supporter, $5,000 in donations will be matched dollar for dollar, creating the opportunity to raise $10,000 for Summit scholarships.

🌟 Treasure Valley Walk Fundraising Spotlight 🌟

Spencer’s Army is a powerful example of how personalizing your team page and sharing your story can inspire connection, awareness, and support for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention.

Their page honors Spencer, a beloved son, brother, and friend remembered for his beautiful heart, imagination, love of history, hiking, gaming, Lego building, cooking, and caring for others.

Through their heartfelt story, Spencer’s Army is helping create open conversations around mental health and reminding others that there is hope and another way forward.

Spencer’s Army is currently the top fundraising team for the Treasure Valley Out of the Darkness Walk 💙

Creating a personalized team page helps supporters better understand your “why,” while personal fundraising pages give each participant the opportunity to share their own connection to the cause and fundraising goals.

On , we honor and remember those who gave their lives in service. 💙 As we reflect, we also recognize the families, friends, fellow service members, and communities who carry their memory. If someone in your life is grieving the loss of a service member, consider reaching out to let them know you’re thinking of them. These simple gestures can reinforce connection and support through moments of remembrance, even from a distance.

As an Asian American male, Vuong grew up with mental health stigma.

Now, as a su***de attempt survivor, Vuong has turned his story into purpose and volunteers for su***de prevention with AFSP’s San Diego chapter.

"I want to create a world in which people, especially those of color, can openly have conversations about mental health and su***de prevention."

Read the blog: afsp.org/story/as-a-su***de-attempt-survivor-i-know-there-is-hope-out-there

In 2018, Vuong Tran was living in one of the most beautiful cities in America — San Diego — but experiencing what felt like an impossibly dark season of depression. After surviving a su***de attempt and spending five days in a psychiatric hospital, Vuong found hope in community and in therapy.

We can't talk about Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month without talking about mental health. 💙

Between 2023 and 2024, the su***de rate among Asian Americans saw the largest increase, rising from 6.3 to 6.8 per 100,000. So, now more than ever, it is critical that the AAPI community feels empowered to reach out for help and that they have access to culturally-relevant mental health care. Together, we can — and must — support AAPI mental health.
