This weekend, Boise Metro Rotary, alongside JEMfriends and volunteers from across the community, participated in Epic Day of Service.

Together, we spent the day repainting the playground at McMillan Elementary, creating a bright, refreshed space for students to enjoy. We hope the kids are already loving their renewed playground! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

A special shoutout to our very own, Tracy R., for organizing this amazing day of service!

Thank you to everyone who showed up, pitched in, and helped make a difference. Itโ€™s amazing what we can accomplish together in a single day of service.

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’‰ Itโ€™s World Immunization Week!

This week, we recognize the power of vaccines to save livesโ€”and the fight against polio shows just how effective immunization can be.

Since 1988, when Rotary helped launch the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, global vaccination efforts have reduced polio cases by 99% and saved an estimated 20 million children from paralysis. What was once a disease paralyzing more than 1,000 people a day is now endemic in just two countries.

The same immunization infrastructure that brought polio to the brink of eradication continues to strengthen global healthโ€”supporting outbreak response, disease surveillance, and COVIDโ€‘19 prevention and vaccination efforts worldwide.

During World Immunization Week, we recommit to closing immunization gaps and protecting communities everywhere from vaccineโ€‘preventable diseases.

April 19th marks the 158th birthday of Paul Harris โ€” the visionary who founded Rotary. ๐ŸŽ‰

Born on April 19, 1868, in Racine, Wisconsin, Paul Harris grew up valuing community and fellowship. Those values stayed with him as he became a lawyer and eventually settled in Chicago. Missing the camaraderie of smallโ€‘town life, he imagined a way for professionals to connect, support one another, and serve their communities.

That simple but powerful idea became reality on February 23, 1905, when Harris met with Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram Shorey for what would become the first Rotary club meeting. From that moment, Rotary began to grow โ€” not just across cities in the U.S., but around the world.

Paul Harris championed Rotaryโ€™s expansion, helped establish the National Association of Rotary Clubs (now Rotary International), and later served as the public face of the organization alongside his wife, Jean. Even after his passing in 1947, his legacy lived on through the Paul Harris Memorial Fund, which helped launch The Rotary Foundationโ€™s first international scholarships.

Today, as we celebrate his 158th birthday, we honor Paul Harris for turning fellowship into service and a single idea into a global movement of people united in doing good. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

๐ŸŒŸ RYLA Applications Are Open! ๐ŸŒŸ

Our Rotary club is now accepting applications for two students to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)โ€”a transformative summer leadership experience for high school juniors and seniors.

RYLA is a hands-on leadership camp where students grow their confidence, communication skills, and ability to work as a team. Campers are mentored by outstanding young leaders and connect with peers from across Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregonโ€”all while learning, challenging themselves, and having fun.

๐Ÿ“… July 31 โ€“ August 3, 2026

Students participate in interactive leadership activities, team-building challenges, and meaningful conversations that help shape their leadership journeyโ€”plus create memories and friendships that last long after camp.

Our club is proud to sponsor two students to attend this program.

Keep Boise safe! Lithium-ion batteries can ignite if thrown in the trash, but 95% of the lithium and cobalt can be recovered by recycling. Please join Rotary and our high school student partners on April 25th by dropping off your old rechargeable devices and batteries from 9am to 12pm. The largest lithium mine in the world is in the junk drawers of America!
