Treasure Valley Orchid Society

Treasure Valley Orchid Society TVOS meets on the third Wednesday of each month. For more information, visit treasurevalleyorchidsociety.org Cole Road, Boise, ID 83704. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The Treasure Valley Orchid Society was founded in 1971 by a dedicated group of orchid enthusiasts who came together to share their knowledge. TVOS began with seven members and has grown to more than 60 today. Our purpose is to promote the appreciation of orchids, to encourage the exchange of ideas concerning the culture and growing of orchids, to conduct orchid exhibitions and shows for member fel

lowship, and to advance the knowledge and appreciation of orchids. Membership in the Treasure Valley Orchid Society is $20 per individual and $30 per couple or family. Membership includes access to the club's extensive library of books, bulletins and videos on orchids and orchid cultivation. Each meeting offers an informative program, and a beautiful and interesting display of blooming orchids. There are also plant sales, raffle plants, and door prizes. As a member, each month you will receive the Orchid Chat newsletter to keep you up to date on what's going on in the club. The Treasure Valley Orchid Society meets on the third Wednesday of each month from September through May, at the Club House at Signature Point Apartments, 3509 N. for socializing and to provide members the opportunity to have questions answered about their orchids. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments follow. In June and July, events such as a plant auction and family picnic, and an annual greenhouse tour can take place and will be scheduled by the membership at one of the monthy meetings. August is scheduled as vacation month.

The orchid meeting tomorrow night, Wednesday, is on February 18, not the 21. Sorry for the confusion.

Reminder: we will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Go down the big central hall from the south entry doors. Almost at the other end of the big central hall, on the left is a very short hallway. The doorway to the Fellowship Hall is on the right of the short hallway.

Our next general meeting will be this Wednesday, February 21. The same meeting as usual, but in the Fellowship Hall per above.

2025 TVOS December annual meeting and holiday potluck: tomorrow, Wednesday, December 17. Set-up for potluck at 6pm. Bring anything you like to share for the potluck, either to go with the ham I will be bringing, or something completely different, like an appetizer, salad, dessert, veggie tray, or a hot veg. If your dish needs serving ware, as for a salad, please bring it. The club will provide table service, coffee, and bottled water.

We will be in a different location, the Western Riding Club clubhouse. Don't use GPS instructions to find it as GPS didn't work for two of the board members.

Use the following instructions. Go south on Cole Rd. and turn left on Amity. Amity changes quickly to Umatilla, just before you get to the Indian Lakes Golf Course and their parking lot. Continue on Umatilla, just past the golf course parking lot is the gate and dirt road to the Western Riding Club property on Western Riding Club Lane. Tammy is going to try to put balloons at the gate entrance as the Western Riding Club sign is not very large. Drive around the dirt riding oval to the cinder block clubhouse. There will be a light on the building outside but no parking lot lighting. Bring a flashlight as the parking lot is unpaved. Look for our parked cars.

There will be prizes to take home. It's always a fun event. Please come join us.

Janet Crist has offered her greenhouse for an orchid club event on Saturday, June 28, 10am-1:30pm. Her address:

6463 Sunrise Ave, (their driveway is a dirt road between two fields)

Nampa, ID 83686

Here is her cell # in case you get lost: 208-859-3574

Janet will do a presentation on mounting orchids. We’ll give her some help in the greenhouse: cleaning, debugging, and maybe some repotting of some of her orchids. We’ll have a potluck so bring something to share and serving-wear if needed for it, like for a salad. Janet will provide tableware and drinks. Bring a deck chair for sitting outside.

On tap for Saturday, July 26, will be our annual picnic potluck and orchid silent auction. The park will be the same as last year:

Steve Guerber Park
Hill Rd. (2200 E. Celia CT., Eagle ID) between Highway 55 and Edgewood
Sunset Pavilion, Section C
10am-2pm

Bring a deck chair, a dish to share along with serving-ware for it if needed, and any orchids that you want to auction off. Tableware and bottled water will be provided. The club will keep 20% of your auction sales, or you can donate your proceeds to the club if you want. Bid sheets and pencils will be provided. Sales tax will be collected on all transactions.

On Saturday, August 9, Lynn Kinter will do her Idaho native orchid class at the Idaho Botanical Garden, in their classroom, starting at 10am. We also plan to do a repotting demo for the class after Lynn’s presentation, and hopefully have time left for some Q&A. The class ends at 12pm. You will need to pay admission to the garden, but then you can stroll the garden after the class is over. She does a wonderful presentation if you haven’t seen it before. I have a question to the garden staff about Lynn’s orchid club member helpers having to pay for the class, but I haven’t heard back yet. I will let you all know.

Let’s celebrate the orchid show being over, a successful show I hope. We’ll have a pizza potluck for our celebration. Bring a salad or dessert to share. Table service and bottled water will be provided.

The same meeting location as usual:

King of Glory Lutheran Church- the Bethlehem room (closest exterior doors on the southside)
3430 N. Maple Grove, Boise, ID 83704
7:00pm pizza potluck set-up

There will be raffle prizes, door prizes, and maybe some of those now-open beautiful Sunset Valley Orchid mini-Catt’s for sale.

Lynn Kinter wanted to let any of you know who know someone in Crouch or Garden Valley that she will be doing a wild orchid talk (without our native orchid display) at the Garden Valley Library this Saturday, April 5, from 1pm-2:30pm, in case any of your friends in that area are interested in attending.

This is it, the last general meeting before the orchid show on March 15-16, 2025! Remember, “Stuck on Orchids!”

Want to know how to stage and show off your orchid for the show, like for the monthly meeting voting table? Want to know how to identify your orchid, its parentage, by what’s on the tag if it has a tag? No matter if it doesn’t have a tag; NOID covers that. Want to know what volunteer time slots for the show are still available? Want to know what to bring for the “Rockymobile” lunch wagon? Sign-up sheets will be available at the meeting for the remaining volunteer time slots and lunch wagon donations.

I think we’ll have a roundtable at the meeting for all the other show questions.

The same meeting details as usual:

King of Glory Lutheran Church- the Forum room (closest exterior doors on the southside)
3430 N. Maple Grove, Boise, ID 83704
7pm start of the roundtable

There will be refreshments and maybe a prize or two..

There is supposed to be snow tomorrow morning, but just an inch or so. The roads shouldn’t be too bad tomorrow night. See you there!

Thanks!
