Whitney Community Center Open Monday-Friday 3PM-7PM (School Hours) 1PM-5PM (Summer/Holiday Hours) Whitney Community Center is located at Whitney Elementary School, 1609 S.

Owyhee St., on the Boise Bench off Overland Road. The center, which is operated by Boise Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Boise School District, opened in August 2009. The 4,000-square-foot community center features multipurpose rooms for after-school drop-in use, studio space for art and dance classes for children and adults, and a supervised teen activity center with computers, games,

and a lounging area. The city of Boise allocated $600,000 for the center, which serves low-income children in the neighborhood. At Whitney Community Center, the Kid City free drop-in program is available for children in grades 4-6. Staff members provide instruction in fitness and art, homework assistance, and a snack. Teens enjoy an informal gathering space with cozy lounge chairs, computer stations with interactive video games, and a large-screen TV and Wii games. Staff members provide mentoring and life skills development for teens. Whitney Community Center is open year round (including holidays and summer break) is located in a wing of the school adjacent to the cafeteria and gymnasium.
