Dear Everyone, Through years of practice, I have received a couple of acknowledgments. My Buddhist practice began 1995 at Gampo Abbey with the late Ani Tsultrim Palmo who said, 'Sit with Zen Buddhists, they know how to sit.' In early 1996, I met  my root teacher, Rev. Dai-en Bennage Roshi. Each m...

Zazen merges with Alexander Technique!
Thanks to everyone who attended Saturday morning 8th November. We rolled on the floor as seals and rested upright as eggs on our cushions. Then we asked, ‘What’s it like to be me?’

During a recent retreat at Redding Buddhist Priory in Redding, California, we discovered that if you don't 'dig' zazen, you'll probably give it up. You're always welcome to check it out at Boise Zen Center. https://www.boisezencenter.org

The 24th October, 2019 is the second year Anniversary of Boise Zen Center. Thank you for supporting Zen practice here in Boise, Idaho. Without the donations of all who are giving and have given, BZC could not continue its mission -that is ‘ongoing awakening’. The doors are open and you will be welcome. 🙏🏽

I will be offering a talk here in Stanley, Idaho. On December 18, 2017, the International Dark Sky Reserve designated an area stretching across 1,400 square miles in central Idaho. It's the nation’s first International Dark Sky Reserve and one of just 12 worldwide. The area stretches from Ketchum, Sun Valley to Stanley. Some consider this is a watershed moment in the history of American conservation.
I've been coming here since I moved to Idaho in 2016. The silence is thunderous and the sky well, beyond description.

Our Story

The Boise Zen Center is a Soto Zen community in the lineage of Dainin Katagiri Roshi; it was established in October, 2017. We are committed to zazen, study, and opening the doors to explore our Chinese ancestors and koan introspection, Jisen Coghlan is exploring new ways to teach from years of ‘classical’ training and discovering how her background in dance, music, physical therapy and the Alexander Technique can inform Zen practice. What is the dance between tradition and transformation?
