Mentorship Embodies Vocational Service at Boise Sunrise

One of the subtle areas of impact that Rotary International asks individual clubs to embrace is what we call Vocational Service. RI was originally formed to bring business and community leaders together to show our hometowns what this combination of skill and service above self could deliver. The term vocational service is one that is not widely understood but that does not diminish the ongoing need for these efforts. At Boise Sunrise, we believe that mentorship is one of the most authentic and effective ways to highlight our vision of vocational service.

With this in mind, an impressive crew of women conducted a workshop on nonprofit management and best practices recently after the club meeting. Organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Girl Scouts, Lee Pesky Learning Center, and Rotarians were well represented in this effective and intimate gathering.

As professionals who have our own resume of accomplishments, we are all clear that timely assistance in the form of mentoring was an important detail in our careers. In short, we all appreciate when we are on the receiving end of some excellent advice that informs a successful outcome. With that as a frame, it is easy to make the leap into delivering our own assistance to young professionals in form of mentorship sessions like the one in the photo below. This effort represents our desire to be People of Action in a way that really does leave it better than we found it.

We thank all of these terrific panelists representing some of the finest nonprofit organizations in the Treasure Valley. And we applaud everyone who attended and got a chance to hear about proven best practices in the nonprofit space. We continue to strive to deliver this service to local professionals shaping the future of SW Idaho. Bravo!

The Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise celebrated our annual Founders Day as well as leaning into an Epic Day of Service at Hope House yesterday. We built a handsome shade cover for the HH founder and painted a couple large exterior walls on two dorms. The sun coming up over Lizard Butte near Marsing was highly inspiring to the 20+ volunteers who spent the morning leaving it better than we found it!

We greatly admire the work that Hope House does and we are proud supporters of that work with volunteer days like this one. We sought to embody Service Above Self in these projects that also included leaving their softball field looking as good as it ever has. This combination of service and fellowship (while we got sweaty and covered in inadvertent splotches of exterior latex paint!) contributes directly to a life of purpose as well as some giggles along the way.

Good afternoon all,

We have a story to share here. The Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise has worked with Hope House in Marsing for many years. And we have known for a while now that a carefully crafted succession plan was a quietly urgent need. This was deemed to be a solvable issue but we knew that it would take time and a LOT of creative thinking to achieve the aspirational results we were aiming for.

Numerous club members had skills that could be leveraged to assist this critical transition. And, after telling all of you about the spectacular results associated with our Lobsterfest fundraisers in other posts, now we could tell you how a healthy chunk of those funds were put to use.

The attached is a terrific story. There were a lot of subtle details that needed to be invented on the fly but the results are extremely promising. And our good friends at Idaho Partners for Good (IP4G) now have a model of unique effectiveness that they are bringing to the consultation work they are currently doing with other nonprofits.

We are excited to see the path that Hope House is now on. A new team is in place and by all accounts, they are humming and executing and understanding their jobs in service to this important nonprofit in Marsing. We are proud to leave it better than we found it in this manner. BRAVO! to everyone who made this story a reality

This is a good story. Enjoy the read...

In November and December of 2025, Clubs in District 5400 were invited to participate in a campaign to increase giving to the Rotary Foundation. The matching campaign provided a 1 for 1 match of recognition points for dollars donated.

The Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise had more than 20 members participate in the program and 18 new Paul Harris Fellowship levels were achieved as a result. Supporting the Rotary Foundation in this manner feeds the financial engine of Rotary International and this is yet another way that we seek to leave it better than we found it.

If you or your club are interested in running such a campaign, contact the District foundation committee for details. Thank you to all Rotarians at the club level and the Rotary District 5400 leadership for supporting this effective project!

The Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise's Center of the Table (CoT) recipient for January 2026 was the Idaho Foodbank. What an outstanding organization! They are the gold standard for effective collaboration and for compassionate and efficient operations in service to Idahoans who are food insecure. We had a chance to tour their facility and deliver that CoT check last week.

At Boise Sunrise, we seek to leave it better than we found it. We are proud supporters and collaborators with this terrific organization. Their everyday efforts on behalf of our neighbors fully align with our mission stated above. Bravo IFB!!
