The future of family medicine is shaped by students who lead, advocate and speak up for their patients and communities.

At the 2026 AAFP FUTURE Conference, Idaho WWAMI MS3 Jeff Mitchell experienced this firsthand through Student Congress, the resolution process and conversations with residency programs.

“Attending the AAFP FUTURE Conference in Kansas City gave me the opportunity to experience family medicine not only as a clinical specialty, but also as a national community committed to advocacy and meaningful policy change.”

We’re proud to support Idaho’s future family physicians as they connect, learn and lead.

What does it look like when future family physicians experience the breadth of family medicine firsthand?

For Idaho medical students at the 2026 AAFP FUTURE Conference, it meant hands-on workshops, procedural training, residency connections and learning alongside students from across the country.

Idaho WWAMI MS2 Kirsten Vander Schaaf shared:

“Overall, attending FUTURE as an MS2 was incredibly helpful. Having the opportunity to attend procedure stations and workshops as well as getting exposure to residency programs, was super amazing.”

Idaho WWAMI MS2 Trevor Kendrick added:

“I’m extremely grateful for the FUTURE conference and everything I was able to learn from it. I feel more prepared and more capable as a result.”

We’re proud to support Idaho’s future family physicians!

IAFP President, Dr. Angie Devitt, hit the road this last weekend to visit with IAFP members at hospitals and clinics across southern Idaho. Some of her stops included visiting Dr. Kern, Dr. Canty, and Dr. Gold in the Magic Valley, an overnight with incoming President Dr. Crane and family in Montpelier, and Dr. Regan in Lava Hot Springs! Dr. Devitt is home safe and reports that it was wonderful to connect with family physicians and their health care teams!

The IAFP stands with our Trans community today and everyday.

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, a day to celebrate the joy, resilience, and accomplishments of transgender and non-binary people worldwide, while combating rising anti-trans legislation and violence.

While our trans community has shown incredible resilience in this state, Idaho's lawmakers continue to both deny that trans people exist and single them out for differential treatment under the law.

Bills like HB 752 and HB 822 rely on fear and misinformation to justify putting trans folks in harm's way. Our fight for trans visibility is more needed today than ever before. Misinformation about trans people must be challenged with facts and love. That is the spirit of TDOV.

Show trans people they belong in Idaho by telling Governor Little to veto HB 752 and HB 822: https://buff.ly/XE1gW8G
