Just so cool that I wanted to share!

Karen has been featured in Quiltfolk magazine. She also had her own exhibit at the National Quilt Museum ("The Stars Are Aligned") in 2024, and launched a lunar-themed quilt challenge celebrating our country's return to the moon that was part of a display at the Kennedy Center in April of this year.

Registration for Jessie Swimeley's "Discover the Blues: Cyanotype Basics" workshop opened to the public today, and the class is already more than half full! Jessie, a local artist, has put together a workshop with a focus on creating cyanotype prints on fabric especially for us! Come and learn about the history and process of cyanotype, and leave with your own unique prints that can be used in future projects.

If you loved getting to see Karen Taber's trunk show of antique quilts last night-- and didn't we all?!-- then don't miss her upcoming exhibit at the Boise Art Museum!

The exhibit will include completely different quilts from the ones we saw last night, but they will be just as wonderful and you'll be able to see them closer up and at leisure! 😍

Two of this year's "Amethyst" Hoffman Challenge winners are from Boise and are members of our guild!

Kadee Porter placed first in "Pieced" with her quilt, "Lollipops." Kadee's business, Kalico Palace Quilting, creates stamps that can be used to make it easier to cut out quilt pieces for handwork . . . you simply stamp directly onto your fabric, then cut out the pieces. Her template set and pattern for "Lollipops" is scheduled to be released in June.

Joyce Cambron was the first-place winner in the "Applique" category with her piece, "Sakura Sunrise." Yay, Joyce!!! Beautiful work! (See the first comment before for a clearer photo of this quilt.)

Show 'n Tell Theme for May: Stripes!

Striped fabric can be hard to incorporate into a quilt, but stripes can also offer some unique opportunities for geometric special effects. Show us what you've done with stripes! 😍

Sort through your quilt collection and bring one featuring stripes to the May guild meeting . . . or post a photo in the comments below. We'd also love to see any finished quilts from the "Quartered Stripes" Schoolhouse class that Barbara Doogan taught in February!

Newly finished quilts of any kind are always welcome at Show 'n Tell . . . the theme just creates an opportunity to reshare your older creations. :)

Please click here to read about Show & Tell procedures, and help out our volunteers by completing the online form tobefore you come to the meeting!

Our May guild speaker is Karen Taber. Karen is an avid collector of antique quilts and has an extensive collection. If you are a customer of Rediscovered Books, you have probably noticed some of Karen's antique quilts exhibited there on a rotating basis . . . and several of Karen's quilts are also slated for a special exhibit at the Boise Art Museum this November!

For her presentation for the guild, Karen has selected some of the quilts in her collection for a trunk show, and will educate us about some of the styles and techniques featured in these quilts based on their time periods.

Using tiny buttons from the Scrapbooking section at the ReUse Market, guild member Lynette Roderick created this little commemorative graduation quilt for a friend who is blind. The letters on the little pennants spell out "Congratulations Graduate" in Braille, and the graduate's initials and graduation date are also included.
