I have always been asked “ Do you hear from the kids you serve at THE CLOSET after they age out “ ?
The answer is sometimes .

Tonight I can answer that question even better.
Sharaf is a young man I met at THE CLOSET about 8 years ago ,
From the start , I had a connection with him .
We have stayed in close contact all these years ,
He has overcome SO MUCH !
Foster care , corrections, job challenges , relationship challenges and more ,
We have spent many conversations regarding those challenges and he has ALWAYS overcome .

Tonight I was able to be present for him receiving his cords for First Generation Graduate from BSU .
Proud moment for sure !!!!

As this photo was taken with him ( and my husband ) at the end he shared how much it had meant to him to have me cheering him on.
It’s been an absolute joy to watch him conquer his college degree and he is now accepted into a Masters Program at WSU.

So go ahead and ask me again “ Do you hear from the kids you serve at THE CLOSET after they age out “.

To that I say “ yes , sometimes I do “ with a big smile as I think of Sharaf and how incredibly proud of him I am .

I just have to add this : as I’m finishing writing this post Sharaf just called me ….just wanted to tell me how much it meant to him that I was there and that he loves me
The feeling is mutual Sharaf , the feeling is mutual .

A Dream Fit for Prom Night!
Hello, wonderful Closet supporters!
Prom season is officially in the air, and I wanted to share a sweet moment from one of our recent appointments. We had a fantastic young man come in to shop for everyday essentials, but he also hoped to find a jacket and a collared shirt for his big night.
As a taller, broader guy, finding the perfect fit can sometimes be a challenge. Looking through our suits, he found not just a jacket, but a set with pants & a vest. He tried it on with high hopes, and let me tell you…it fit like it was custom-made just for him! It was a sharp, beautiful suit that truly felt like it had been sitting on our racks just waiting for him to walk through the door.

We are excited for him, but we also know these moments don't happen by accident. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! These life-changing milestones are only possible because of our dedicated volunteers, our generous donors, and this incredible community.
We are so deeply grateful for your years of love, your energy, your prayers, and your constant support. Thank you for making moments like this possible!

Here at The Closet, we want to take a moment to thank all of the school counselors who go above and beyond every day for their students. We are grateful to work closely with West Ada middle and high school counselors to help teens in our community access much-needed clothing and support. These dedicated professionals play a vital role in the lives of so many students, and their compassion, advocacy, and care do not go unnoticed. Please join us in thanking and recognizing these incredible counselors this week!
