New from Politico: Trump wants data centers on public land. A GOP senator in Idaho is ‘skeptical.’

"Risch is 'skeptical of bringing more data centers to our state, particularly on public lands,” said Madison Hardy, his spokesperson.

... if local residents are opposed to the project, the senator 'is committed to using his senior position in the U.S. Senate to help stop them.'"

We'll just have to wait and see if it's all talk...⏳

The Bureau of Land Management is currently considering at least 20 applications related to data centers on public lands.

We have events and actions rolling out shortly. We are coordinating with multiple groups and allies to create a series of educational events as well as opportunities to join us in applying community and political pressure and oversight.

Speak up against the Silver Spur Gas Pipeline!

Recently, the Silver Spur gas pipeline was proposed, an 88-mile gas pipeline that would start in Nevada and go north, through our public lands, to Twin Falls, ID. Williams executives have said it would be the first phase of a larger gas pipeline project called the Rockies Columbia Connector. 🤢

This pipeline proposal comes right as polluting gas plants are being constructed across Southern Idaho and the West as a whole to meet increased energy demand from data center and big tech development. Gas plants are expensive, risky, dirty, and unnecessary, and gas pipelines are dangerous and destructive in their own right, especially on our public lands. 🏞️🚨

The pipeline company Williams is holding these public meetings to try to garner local support for the project. If you're close by, show up and let them know what you think about it: say NO WAY to the Silver Spur pipeline! ❌

Interested in becoming an Outings Leader with Idaho Sierra Club? Join this training to learn how to lead meaningful and inclusive outdoor trips for folks in our community and follow Sierra Club Outings policies. Possible trips you could lead include hikes, camping/backpacking trips, bike rides, caving outings, and other adventures that you have experience in. Snacks and a free lunch will be provided!

This training is best done in-person, but we can provide a virtual option if needed, especially so folks outside of the Treasure Valley can engage.

"The proposed site is near Blacks Creek Reservoir and the Blacks Creek Bird Reserve, an area used by numerous bird and wildlife species.

'The Idaho High Desert can look kind of barren, but it’s full of life, both flora and fauna,' [Lisa] Young said.

Young said noise, construction, water use and electricity demand should be examined as part of the federal environmental review."

Join us on a community hike to Sawtooth Lake! This out-and-back day hike features high alpine lakes, with beautiful views of the Sawtooth Mountains along the way. We'll share lunch together at the top, and our Outings leaders will also share information about how you can advocate for our forests and wildlife. 🏞️🌲

🥾 Expect to hike 10 miles, with 1,800ft of elevation gain—this outing is best for those with experience on longer, more strenuous hikes. Plan accordingly for an adventure on the trail with a day pack for water, snacks, and warm layers.

⚠️ Time is running out to protect our roadless forests! The public comment period closes today, October 6! 🚨

These forests across the nation support Tribal treaty rights, provide clean drinking water and critical wildlife habitat, and offer places for recreation and connection. And they’re at risk: the Trump administration is proposing to rescind the Roadless Rule, opening millions of acres to new roads, logging, drilling, and mining.

The public comment period closes today, October 6! If you love our country's wild places, NOW is the time to speak up!
