Idaho is one of only three states(it is now down to TWO) including North Dakota and South Dakota, that does not have a felony cruelty to animals provision. Malicious intent is almost impossible to prove! In 2008, the Idaho legislature changed dog fighting to a felony, so dog fighting and poisoning are the only felonies in Idaho’s Animal Care Law. ass roots organization brought forth by a coalition of Idaho citizens and groups to protect Idaho animals from cruelty. We tied to collect 60,000 signatures by April 30, 2012 to get this initiative on the November 2012 ballot but due to non-registered voters and specific format restrictions, we did not quite make our goal. We will probably start again and use the entire 18 months to collect needed signature instead of the 10 months we used in 2012. The initiative will accomplish two things:
1. Add a torture definition which will result in felony charges and penalties;
2. Add a felony penalty for the third and subsequent convictions of animal cruelty. If you are a registered voter in Idaho please sign the petition!
