SWIMBA Position on Proposed Eagle Fire District Maintenance & Training Facility (CUP‑2026‑13)
SWIMBA appreciates the opportunity to comment on the proposed Conditional Use Permit for the Eagle Fire District and City of Eagle facility at 11280 N. Horseshoe Bend Road.
SWIMBA fully supports the critical role our first responders play in protecting the open spaces we all enjoy. We are not opposed to the Fire District’s need for a maintenance and training facility. Public safety infrastructure matters — and we value it.
However, we believe this specific location poses a significant impact to existing recreational opportunities at the Ada/Eagle Bike Park and surrounding open‑space areas. Even with planned trail connectivity, the size, scale, and operational demands of the proposed facility would introduce noise, lighting, traffic, and activity levels that fundamentally change the character of this recreation hub.
Eagle has spent years building a community identity centered on trails, parks, pathways, and open space. These amenities are a major reason people choose to live and recreate here. Protecting them should remain a top priority.
SWIMBA respectfully requests the Commission deny the application as proposed and evaluation of alternative sites that meet public safety needs without sacrificing recreation, trail connectivity, or open‑space values.
If the application continues forward, we urge the City to closely evaluate:
• Impacts to current and future recreational activities
• Trail and pathway connectivity
• Noise, lighting, traffic, and operational effects
• Opportunities to preserve or enhance recreation as part of any City benefit
• Alternative locations that better balance safety and long‑term recreation access
SWIMBA’s mission is to create, protect, and sustain a world‑class multi‑use trail network for all. As growth accelerates, preserving Eagle’s remaining open spaces becomes even more important.
We ask the Commission to prioritize recreation, public access, and open‑space preservation when evaluating CUP‑2026‑13 — and require clear justification that this site is truly the best and most compatible location for the proposed facility.
The meeting will take place on Monday August 3, 2026 6:00PM at Eagle City Hall.
