Snake River Alliance

Snake River Alliance Join us! Since 1979 the Alliance has worked to protect Idaho's people, environment, and economy from nuclear weapons and waste at the Idaho National Laboratory.

We envision an Idaho where our people and our environment are free from the threat of nuclear waste and contamination, and our communities are healthy, strong, and prosperous because of our reliance on clean and renewable energy. Today we are one of Idaho's strongest advocates for clean and renewable energy, leading the charge for the development of a sustainable energy plan for Idaho and providing leadership and coordination amongst our allies.

So wonderful to work with our allies in DC this week, advocating against nuclear weapons and nuclear waste. Thank you to the Alliance for Nuclear Accountability!

The Alliance for Nuclear Accountability’s 38th year of our annual DC Days is in full swing! We’re so glad to be here and have more than thirty local, regional, and national organizations concerned about the consequences of US nuclear weapons and waste policies. Alliance for Nuclear Accountability groups focus on:
- Stopping new nuclear weapons design, engineering, production, and testing.
- Addressing challenges from cleanup and waste management, processing, storage, and
disposal.
- Stopping the creation of new nuclear waste.
ANA’s collaboration of grassroots groups has worked for 39 years at local, regional, state, and national levels to address health and safety issues at Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) sites for workers, the public, and the environment.

Thanks to the International Humanitarian Law and Youth Initiative, ICAN partners, for creating an Arabic language video about nuclear weapons!

☢️While the TPNW has been hugely successful, this video emphasizes the continuing threat of nuclear weapons to civilians, the environment, and future generations.
🕊️The video also highlights the role of education in building awareness and promoting a culture of peace and disarmament.

ℹWhy Your Comment Matters — and How It Works

The NRC nuclear reactor licensing process normally has two separate parts — a safety review and an environmental review governed by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

⚠Both are required by law and the public — which includes individuals, community groups, environmental organizations, and indigenous nations — gets to comment on both. Those comments create the legal record necessary to challenge agency decisions in court. Without them there is no basis for a legal challenge.

⏰NRC comment periods are typically 30 days or less — barely enough time for most people to learn a rule exists, let alone analyze it.

🤓But you do not have to be an expert to submit a comment.

You can reference the technical arguments of others in your submission, which incorporates those arguments into the administrative record under your name and strengthens the legal foundation for any future court challenge.

Per Lynda, you can also copy and paste any part of the article below directly into your comment. 👇

13 organizations, including Snake River Alliance, warn Trump his fast-tracking and rubber-stamping new reactors would violate the Atomic Energy Act. Check out the NIRS press release!
Thank you, Nuclear Information and Resource Service, for organizing comments!

A coalition of 13 organizations is warning that the Trump administration’s push to fast-track nuclear development violates the Atomic Energy Act and undermines independent safety oversight.

The executive orders would weaken radiation protections, accelerate reactor approvals, and prioritize industry expansion over public health and environmental safety.

As NIRS Executive Director Timothy Judson stated:
“There is no ‘fixing’ or ‘reviving’ nuclear energy.”

We need independent regulation, real public protections, and investment in renewable energy—not dangerous nuclear deregulation.

We're working with Idaho Downwinders to ensure every eligible Idahoan submits their Radiation Exposure Compensation claim accurately and gets the full amount, keeping that money in their families and Idaho communities.

This year, your gift to the Snake River Alliance will:

♋Support the RECA Roadshow! With Idaho Downwinders, we will travel to communities all over Idaho to help people with their claims.
✈Send a delegation of Idahoans to Washington, D.C., ensuring our stories are told where decisions are made, and pushing for the expansion and extension of the RECA program. Too many people were left out.
🎨Engage young people and frontline communities to bolster our movement and prepare a new generation of nuclear abolitionists.
🌎Fuel the fight for a safe, healthy, and nuclear-free future for Idaho and our children.

💝Make your gift to Snake River Alliance this Idaho Gives! Go to bit.ly/Snakes-Idaho (Link in Bio!) or text RECA to 4-4-3-2-1.
