Big Brothers Big Sisters of Idaho Creating bright futures through mentorship.

https://linktr.ee/bbbsidaho

It is the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with measurable impact. Our Vision is a successful mentoring relationship for all children who need and want one, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all. Most of us can name a person in our lives who invested the time to make us feel special and valued. These mentors contribute to helping others achieve their potential. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a natural mentor in their life. That is why the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization has played an important role for over a hundred years facilitating and guiding mentor relationships. Mentors are often the one person who makes a difference at a critical turning point in a child’s life. To foster these relationships, there are three specific BBBS programs for families to choose from. The program provides an opportunity for a young person, ages 6-18, to spend time exploring a large variety of community activities with an adult mentor 2 -3 times a month. Site-based mentoring also matches one child with one caring adult or teen mentor weekly at an elementary school during the lunch break or after school or at the facility of a recreational program like the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs. This type of match allows for meetings within the safety of a supervised program, with the latitude of multiple activity centers and other opportunities. The site-based mentoring allows BBBS to match children whose home life might not be stable enough to be matched in our community program, which involves a higher-level of parent participation. It also allows the professional staff to monitor and support more matches at a central location. On an ongoing basis for the life of the match a BBBS “counselor” supports each relationship on a monthly or quarterly schedule. Support is provided to ensure child safety and quality of the match relationship. As needed, issues are addressed related to communication, meeting frequency, variety of activities and any other topics that will be important to the longevity of the relationship.

Meet Jaxon & Andrew!

We’re excited to welcome this new match to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Idaho.

When Andrew first learned about BBBS, he knew he wanted to get involved. He had considered volunteering in Wyoming, but knowing he would be moving, he decided to wait until he could settle in and be ready to show up consistently for a kid who needed someone in their corner.

Enter Jaxon! 💚

Jaxon is smart, active, and always up for learning something new, and he and Andrew already have plenty of interests to explore together. From being active outdoors to music and art, rocks and geology, and even rock hounding, there’s no shortage of possibilities for their time together.

We’re excited to see where this match takes them, from discovering new hobbies to getting outside and, most importantly, building a friendship along the way.

Welcome to BBBS, Andrew and Jaxon! We’re so excited to watch your friendship grow!

Three ways mentoring makes a difference in a young person’s life:

Confidence
97% of Littles report feeling more confident.

Confidence helps young people try new things, speak up, make decisions, and keep going when something feels difficult. A caring mentor can be the person who says, “I know you can do this,” until a Little starts believing it, too.

Opportunity
84% of Littles report that their mentor provided opportunities they would not have had otherwise.

Sometimes making a difference means opening a door. Trying something new. Visiting somewhere they have never been. Learning a new skill. Meeting new people. Discovering an interest they did not know they had.

These experiences can help young people see new possibilities for their lives.

Resilience
Having at least one caring adult in a child’s life is one of the leading factors in developing resilience.

Kids will face disappointment, change, mistakes, and challenges. They do not need someone who can make all of those things disappear. They need someone who reminds them they do not have to face them alone.

The confidence to try, the opportunities to grow, and the resilience to keep going are skills young people carry with them into school, relationships, careers, and adulthood.

Mentoring does not change a child’s future overnight. It is about being there consistently as they grow into it.

One caring adult can make a lasting difference. 💚

30 minutes. Once a week. One kid who knows you’ll show up. 💚

We’re looking for 10 more Lunch Buddies by November 1st to volunteer at a school near you.

As a Lunch Buddy, you’ll spend about 30 minutes each week with a student. You might eat lunch together, play a game, talk about your day, or simply be a positive adult in their corner.

It’s a small commitment that can make a meaningful difference.

You don’t need to be a teacher, have special training, or have all the answers. You just need to be willing to show up consistently.

Could you give 30 minutes a week?

We’re excited to welcome Big Brother Davien and Little Brother Carson to the BBBS family!

Davien has wanted to be a Big for a long time, and we’re so excited to see him step into this role. He’s outgoing, enthusiastic, open-minded, and passionate about making a difference in a child’s life.

Carson was a little shy when they first met, but it didn’t take long for the two to start connecting. Before long, they were playing games, chatting, and getting to know each other. 😊

We’re excited to see Davien encourage Carson to come out of his shell, try new things, and experience new adventures together. Most of all, we’re excited for Carson to have another caring adult in his corner.

We can’t wait to see where this friendship takes them! 💚

Jack is 12 years old and waiting for a Big Brother to join him on his next adventure.

He’s smart, funny, and active. He especially loves sports and football, as well as animals, and plays the guitar!

He’s got plenty of interests and personality to share. What he’s missing is someone to share them with.

Could you be Jack’s Big?

You don’t have to be a coach, a musician, or have all the answers. You just have to be willing to show up, spend time together, and be someone a kid can count on.

👉 Become a Big Brother and help a kid like Jack know that someone is in their corner at bbbsidaho.org/big-application (link also in bio).

At the heart of everything we do is one simple belief:

One caring adult can change a child’s life.

A mentor doesn’t have to have all the answers. They don’t have to be perfect. They just have to show up.

To listen.
To encourage.
To celebrate the little wins.
To help a young person see what they’re capable of.
To be there through the good days, the hard days, and all the days in between.

Because sometimes, having just one person in your corner can change the way you see yourself, your future, and what you believe is possible.

That’s our why.

As we wrap up Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, we’re celebrating the caring adults who choose to make a difference and the incredible young people who remind us every day why this work matters.

It takes little to be big. And sometimes, a little time, a little encouragement, and a lot of showing up can change a life.
