We are still outraged by the recent delays to the Title II regulations and HHS Section 504. Thank you to everyone for continuing to share your stories. Here is one from Margie Donovan: “I have lived with my city’s inaccessible website for 15 years. Because of it, I am left out of city programs, parks and recreation offerings, and basic civic participation. The delay means I now have to wait even longer to be treated as an equal citizen in the community where I live.”

We filed a lawsuit challenging the administration’s abrupt delay of critical website accessibility features designed to ensure blind people and people with other disabilities can access essential government and healthcare services online.

“For over fifty years, our laws—specifically Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act— have promised blind Americans and other Americans with disabilities equal access to all areas of life, including digital spaces and services. Yet today this promise remains unfulfilled, and now our government is compounding the outrage by asking us to wait even longer,” said President Riccobono. “We will not wait. We will fight to ensure that the promise of America’s laws, and indeed its founding documents, finally becomes reality for blind and disabled Americans.”

"One day, out of frustration most likely, I asked my mom, 'Why do I have to be different?'” Elizabeth Rouse said. "Instead of offering me some sort of placating remark, she painted me a visual image that still resonates to this day. 'Different doesn’t have to be bad, Bethy. Think about it this way, you’re a flower just like everyone else, but in a field of daisies, you’re a violet.'”

"Only after I found and embraced the Federation did I truly understand the wisdom of my mom’s explanation. The seed that was planted oh-so-long-ago was nurtured by mentors and friends who took the time to help me better understand that my blindness was simply a part of me. It didn’t have to be the biggest, best, or certainly not the worst part of me."
