Idaho Organization of Resource Councils a non-profit, grassroots org empowering citizens to improve the well-being of their communities

We went out to the fields last week to ask our local farmworkers some important questions. We asked “Why is important for our community to support farmworkers”?

Idaho farmworkers are facing dangerous heat and wildfire smoke right now. The people who harvest our food are working long hours in extreme conditions, and without adequate protection, heat illness can become life-threatening.

We’re crowdfunding for the 2026 JJ Saldaña Heat & Smoke Relief Fund to help provide water, electrolytes, bandannas, and shade canopies to farmworkers across Idaho this summer.

IORC staff member Jacky Vásquez has suffered an unimaginable loss. Her husband Mike passed away on Monday in a car accident and two of her young children are in the hospital being cared for.

Jacky is a very compassionate person who has always supported the communities we serve. Her husband Mike was her biggest supporter. Jacky needs our support now more than ever.

Please donate if you are able to. Anything helps. If you cannot donate please share this Go Fund Me.

We love and care for Jacky and her family.

Thank you all.

Over the last few years, one thing has become clear: community is everything. It’s how Idaho thrives.

Community is the person holding the door open at a random store. The neighbor who gives you that simple “good morning” wave. The friend you call on your hardest days and your best ones, too.

Idaho doesn’t rely on DC. Idaho relies on community. Even as an organization we have our moments of calling upon our colleagues working on the same issues as us, we act upon ideas that can be for the greater good of the communities we serve and hold the door open for other organizations to start because organizing is about community.

With it being Idaho Gives last day, show up for the people, places, and causes that make our communities strong. Community is what makes Idaho, Idaho. 💛

Shoutout to and (pictured above) 🌱

At IORC, we believe in the power of taking action. The communities we serve are often forgotten or left out of conversations that directly impact them but we continue to show up, meet them where they’re at and provide what we can. This of course, done in coordination with many of our community partners.

It’s that simple.

Nothing luxurious but community and grassroots in action. Join our mission!

🌱 Did you know that Idaho’s economy is driven by agriculture? According to a study done by the University of Idaho, agriculture contributed $44.5 billion alone in 2024. The driving force behind this statistic are those that plant and harvest the crops yearly: farmworkers.

Farmworkers are more than a commodity and deserve basic protections: water, shade, access to potable water, healthcare, food access and safe work environments.

Your Idaho Gives donation goes directly to supporting these efforts and keeping farmworkers in the conversation! Farmworkers deserve better.

🥳 It’s officially Idaho Gives! Thank you to everyone who’s donated to our mission, campaigns and purpose thus far!

Our goal this year is to raise $1000 which will help us fund a new campaign! Hint: farmworker communities are at the forefront of our food system and climate change. Your donation will help us further support this intersectionality via education and mutual aid efforts.

The farm bill passed with the support of nearly all Republicans and 14 Democrats in favor, but it is unlikely to pass the Senate.
