TU’s Michael Gibson recently wrote about how Idahoans are stepping up to defend public lands. Read about it here:

In Idaho, support for keeping public lands in public hands isn’t just strong—it’s overwhelming. Recent polling shows roughly 96 percent of Idahoans back the idea that public lands should remain accessible to all of us.

RETHINKING BAMBOO FLY RODS

Chapter Meeting - May 6

Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters

6:15 Social – 7:00 Program

Trevor Sheehan, of Elevate Fly Fishing, will talk about modern bamboo fly rods and the path that led him into building them. His work focuses on designing bamboo rods that fish very differently than most anglers expect, with an emphasis on performance and real-world use on the water.
In this presentation, you’ll learn:

•How bamboo rods perform on the water
How modern bamboo fishes at typical trout distances, where it excels, and where it has limitations.

•How bamboo compares to graphite and fiberglass
Differences in casting, recovery, and overall performance.

•What makes modern bamboo different from traditional rods
How contemporary tapers and designs have changed the way bamboo rods fish.

•What goes into building a bamboo fly rod
A behind-the-scenes look at the process, from raw material to finished rod, and the level of precision involved.

Trevor will have rods on hand to handle, giving everyone a chance to see and feel the difference for themselves. Those interested, will be able try out the rods at the park adjacent to IDFG.

What if a fishing program could shape lifelong stewardship of Idaho’s nature? That’s what we’re building.

Our youth programs focus on conservation, catch & release, Leave No Trace, and understanding the ecosystems that make fishing possible in the first place.

Because it’s not just about catching fish – it’s about protecting the beautiful state where they live.

This Idaho Gives, please donate to the youth programs of your local Trout Unlimited chapter!

At Ted Trueblood TU, our youth programs may teach more than you think.

Our programs help kids learn patience, responsibility, and how to care for Idaho’s rivers through hands-on conservation lessons.
When kids understand nature, they protect it.

This Idaho Gives, please support youth programs that help kids develop an appreciation for our watersheds and aquatic life, and become the conservation leaders of tomorrow.
