Cars crash. Identities fracture. Country music hurts. Honestly? A pretty perfect week at the movies.

6/12 — Scanners, Curated by Dan
David Cronenberg’s cold, paranoid sci-fi nightmare still feels disturbingly ahead of its time. Telepathy, corporate warfare, exploding heads — the essentials.

6/13 — Hot Rod, Curated by Grant
One of the dumbest movies ever made. We mean that as the highest compliment possible.    Lonely Island chaos projected at full theatrical volume.

6/14 — One Sings, The Other Doesn’t, Curated by Lisa
A beautiful, compassionate feminist musical from Agnès Varda about friendship, art, love, and political awakening across generations. One of cinema’s great humanists at her absolute warmest.

Three completely different cinematic wavelengths. Exactly how we like it.

You won’t want to miss this special Q&A and talk back with Chris Kent following the screening of “Enter the Dragon” tomorrow at Idaho Film Society station.

Chris Kent has lived with Jeet Kune Do for more than five decades — studying, teaching, writing, speaking and consulting since the 1970s. His friendships and affiliations with members of Bruce Lee’s inner circle have given him rare perspectives on the man and his work. Widely acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost authorities on Jeet Kiune Do.

Kent also co-founded and served on the original Board of Directors of the Bruce Lee Foundation, provided the voiceover for Bruce Lee’s war cries and yells in Game of Death (1978) and has served as a professional training consultant for numerous high-profile film and television projects. Tickets available at idahofilm.org 🎟️

Kicking things off with martial arts legends, sleazy summer chaos, and one of the greatest cult filmmakers of all time.

6/5 — Enter the Dragon, Curated by Grant
Bruce Lee’s immortal masterpiece still hits like a lightning bolt. Pure charisma. Pure style. One of the most influential action films ever made.

6/6 — Pink Flamingos + Female Trouble, Curated by Lisa
An all-night John Waters & Divine Double Feature. Filth, glamour, bad taste, and absolute cinematic anarchy. Not for the easily offended, exactly as intended.

6/7 — Psycho Beach Party, Curated by Grace
Surf rock, slashers, beach movie insanity, and camp chaos collide in one of the funniest cult comedies of the 2000s.

Summer at IFS is officially underway — weird, sweaty, dangerous cinema on the big screen exactly where it belongs.

Tickets available now for all screenings at idahofilm.org

JUNE AT THE IDAHO FILM SOCIETY

June might be one of our strangest months yet.

This month we’ve got:
• Bruce Lee kicking through walls in Enter the Dragon
• Glorious John Waters filth cinema chaos
• Tiny toilet monsters in Ghoulies II
• Sad dads, fake dads, and repressed piano teachers
• Wes Anderson summer melancholy
• Cronenberg exploding heads
• One of the bleakest weeks of movies ever assembled.

Basically: a perfectly balanced cinematic diet.

We’re also incredibly honored to officially partner with the legendary American Cinematheque for this year’s BLEAK WEEK: CINEMA OF DESPAIR — bringing Boise into a nationwide celebration of emotionally devastating cinema alongside one of America’s great repertory institutions.

Films include:
Demonlover
Grave of the Fireflies
The Great Silence
The Piano Teacher
Naked

You will not leave emotionally intact.

+ We’ve also got our annual Summer Filmmaker Mixer on June 25, featuring producer Heather Rae Priest (Outer Range, Fancy Dance, Frozen River) + tech demos + community hangs. As always, first drink’s on us!

Also yes — the front of the building still looks like a scene out of Mad Max. The construction is allegedly wrapping by mid-summer. We remain skeptical.

One last thing: Aidan is out getting hitched to India for much of June, so please be nice to Colette while she keeps the wheels from flying off the bus.

See you at the movies.

MEMBERS ONLY, this one’s for you.

Join us Thursday, May 28 from 5–7PM at The Station for our quarterly Film Society Member Mixer — an evening to hang with fellow film lovers and celebrate everything we’ve been building together. First drink’s on us!

We’ll also be drawing the next few rounds of Member Curations, sharing some exclusive clips and moments from our inaugural Idaho Film Hall of Fame event, and giving members an early look at some of the screenings, guests, collaborations, and special events we’re most excited to host later this year.

Then stick around after the mixer as IFS Member Sam Williams presents one of the great modern cult discoveries: One Cut of The Dead (free to all members).

If you somehow still haven’t seen it — go in blind. It’s funny, inventive, heartfelt, and one of the best reminders of why people fall in love with movies in the first place. An absolute must-watch for horror fans, comedy fans, filmmakers, and honestly… anyone who loves cinema.

A week of obsession, possession, undead chaos, and longing glances!

Thursday — One Cut of the Dead, Curated by IFS Member Sam
One of the most inventive horror comedies of the last decade. What starts as a scrappy zombie movie slowly mutates into something wildly funny, heartfelt, and genuinely exhilarating. Go in blind.

Friday — They Live, Curated by Grant
John Carpenter’s punk-rock sci-fi masterpiece. Alien consumerism. Sunglasses as revolution. Roddy Piper throwing perhaps the greatest punch in cinema history. Still feels disturbingly relevant.

Saturday — Demon Wind, Curated by Grace
Fog machines cranked to maximum. Demons. Latex monsters. Absolute VHS-store lunacy. The kind of late-night cult horror discovery that feels transmitted from another dimension.

Sunday — In the Mood for Love, Curated by Brandon
One of the most beautiful films ever made. Wong Kar-wai’s aching romantic masterpiece about missed connections, memory, and the spaces between people. A perfect way to close the week.

All screenings at The Station.
7PM each night.

See you in the seats!

Meet our new Operations Director, Colette Raptosh!

If you’ve spent any time around Idaho Film Society over the last year, chances are you’ve already crossed paths with Colette. She’s been our upstairs neighbor with her creative agency BNDRY — helping throw some of the most community-driven parties, art events, and cultural happenings in Boise (alongside Joe).

Colette is a Boise native with a background in marketing, operations, creative direction, and large-scale community organizing. She’s worked across Boise building partnerships, and making systems actually function (which is a superpower around here). She also makes a killer spreadsheet.

A few important facts:
• She loves food. Deeply. There is almost always a sandwich, burrito, or pasta within arm’s reach.
• She cannot cook (see factoid one for context).
• She believes art, film, and community should bring people together across backgrounds and experiences.
• She’s already been helping shape IFS behind the scenes long before this title became official.

As Idaho Film Society continues to grow, expanding screenings, events, memberships, statewide programming, and production resources, Colette is going to play a huge role in helping us build something lasting for Idaho artists and audiences.

We’re incredibly excited to have her officially join the team. Give her a warm welcome next time you see her at the station!

This week at the Idaho Film Society:

5/22 — Risky Business — 7PM at The Station
Tom Cruise slides into one of the defining films of the 1980s. Fast cars, neon nights, Tangerine Dream synths, and one very bad idea spiraling completely out of control.

5/23 — The Faculty — 7PM at The Station
Before they were stars, they were fighting aliens in the halls of their high school. Robert Rodriguez’s slick, endlessly rewatchable sci-fi horror mashup still absolutely rips on the big screen.

5/24 — Secret Cinema — 4PM at The Station
You know the drill. No spoilers. No hints. Just trust the curator and take the ride.

5/24 — Ferris Bueller’s Day Off 40th Anniversary — 7PM at The Station
A love letter to youth, rebellion, museums, baseball games, and calling in sick. John Hughes’ Chicago masterpiece turns 40, and honestly? Ferris still has the best life philosophy in movies:
“Life moves pretty fast…”

See you at the movies.
