You probably know this team, and that's no accident!
If you've been in the Veteran Business community for long, you likely know Kerry Greenwald and the crew at Creekside Mortgage.
πΊπΈποΈ
But what's the backstory behind the team, and how did this successful business come to be?
π‘
Like so many entrepreneurs, Kerry didn't love the academic parts of his school day, and signed up for service at an early age. But over-achieving often shows up early, and Kerry utilized the bridge between his jr and senior year for basic training!
πͺ
What was supposed to be a joint effort with friends turned into a character building solo experience, so what does a future mortgage broker decide to do?
Run the heavy equipment!
π
But after his time in the service ended, Kerry found the civilian version of his job wasn't joy giving, and went into lending.
πΈ
And that's it, right?
π€
No Veteran Entrepreneur backstory to date doesn't have its hills and valleys. And Kerry's story is no different!
The mortgage industry is nothing if not dramatic, and is the background music to Creekside Mortgage.
Early on, Kerry learned that this was no set it and forget it, or build it and they will come, situation.
Lessons learned in business:
1: You better get up and do the work early, and every day. Don't start at 10:00 am.
2. If something is working for you, don't tell everyone about it, keep building it!
3. Don't look month to month, look at your situation over the course of a year.
4. There's often competition, but especially when there's not, gamify your mindset, challenge yourself!
5. The goal is to serve, not just sell!
6. Only do, and offer things that you love and believe in. Kerry's dad's wisdom: "Do you believe in what THEY are doing? If NOT, don't do it."
Because of this, Kerry left what he thought was the high point of his career to start Creekside Mortgage!
7. "The trick to being in business, is figuring out how to STAY in business."
8. Every turn of events that got him to where he is today, was precipitated by a loss, a flop, or a downturn.
9. If you have a dream or a vision, don't wait, do it! And be willing to fail.
10. Don't let perfection be the enemy of good.
11. Surround yourself with people who can accell in areas you can't.
π
And what does being a Veteran, and serving Veterans and their families mean to Kerry?
"It means everything."
With over 8,000 loans to date in two states, Kerry and his team strive to change perceptions about VA loans, and Veterans. Closing in weeks instead of months, with a better rate, and a better understanding of what's possible and available puts a smile on their faces.

Being local, and having the ability to counsel, coach, and include Veterans in the community is a part of the mission, and the business goal is to continue to do it right, and to continue enjoy doing it!
