Can you imagine a time when Interior Design had no qualification test? Anyone and everyone who called themselves an Interior Designer convinced the public that they were. But a savvy group of interior designers knew that the requirements, for education, for experience needed another facet of proof of knowledge; like every other respected profession. The NCIDQ was created 50 years ago. We celebrate this milestone! Say "Count me in!" and refresh your dues payment to NCIDQ as part of this celebration of our craft.

Since 1974, CIDQ’s mission has been to create, test and promote guidelines for determining competency in the practice of interior design. NCIDQ Certification has been the global standard for interior design professionals for 50 years.

30 States now regulate Interior Design. New consortium created - IIDA, ASID, CIDQ to address legislative changes/opportunities created in 2021. AIA has changed its national stance from 'Opposed' to 'Neutral'. NCARB and CIDQ have worked for years on a theoretical Venn diagram overlap in testing and job responsibilities. 2021 in North Carolina crafted language deemed acceptable to both professions, design (interiors) and architecture (exteriors). Centered on health, safety and welfare of the public and the professions have both shared and distinctive areas of responsibility.
