The Treasure Valley DUI Task Force joined the community at Firebird Raceway’s annual Trunk or Treat over the weekend to honor Joel Eggers and raise awareness about impaired driving.

Joel, the raceway’s former chief starter, was killed by an impaired driver in 2016.

For the Task Force, preventing impaired driving extends beyond traffic stops. It means connecting with families, remembering lives lost and helping people understand what’s at stake before they get behind the wheel.

We’re grateful to be part of an event that keeps Joel’s memory alive and brings the community together.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon.

MADD Pacific Northwest stands in solidarity with the Bend community during this incredibly difficult time. We offer our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by this profound loss and grieve alongside a community facing unimaginable pain. No child, family, or community should ever have to endure such a tragedy.

A big thank you to Judge Britton for joining our MADD PNW Regional Meeting this week! Judge Britton presides over Oregon’s first and only treatment court to be recognized nationally as a Treatment Court Institute Mentor Court.

The program is doing incredible work, with recidivism rates substantially lower than those of traditional probation programs. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from her work and dedication to accountability, recovery, and creating safer communities.

As victims, survivors, families, and advocates, we know firsthand that the devastating impact of impaired driving never stops with one person. It changes families forever and leaves lasting scars on entire communities. Together, we have the power to help prevent these tragedies.

The bipartisan HALT Drunk Driving Law directs the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to establish a safety standard for impaired-driving prevention technology in new passenger vehicles. This is a critical step toward preventing crashes before they happen and saving lives.

Unfortunately, efforts are underway to defund and delay implementation of this lifesaving law. MADD is calling on Washington Senator Patty Murray, the Senate Appropriations Ranking Member, to stand against these efforts and support the law’s full and timely implementation.

MADD Pacific Northwest was honored to present to approximately 200 Army soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) this week!
It was an impactful and meaningful opportunity to share real stories, raise awareness about the devastating consequences of impaired driving, and reinforce the importance of making safe choices both on and off duty.

We are especially grateful to our incredible community partner and volunteer who joined us and shared their personal story and perspective. Their willingness to speak openly about the impact of impaired driving made this presentation powerful, engaging, and a meaningful reminder of why this work matters.

A special thank you to JBLM for inviting MADD to be part of this important training and for providing the opportunity to connect directly with service members. We are proud to build this partnership and look forward to continuing our work together to prevent impaired driving and keep our roads and communities safe.

The Bushnell University MADD Garden work day in Eugene, Oregon, was a great success! Students and MADD volunteers worked together on garden cleanup, weeding, trimming, spreading new bark mulch, cleaning the flagstones, and maintaining the granite.

Everyone worked hard and was incredibly helpful throughout the day. The City of Eugene Parks Department generously provided multiple tools and the bark mulch, which helped make the project possible.

Thank you to all of the students, MADD volunteers, and City Parks staff who contributed their time and effort. It was a very successful and productive work day!
