Idaho Scam Jam Alliance

Idaho Scam Jam Alliance The Idaho Scam Jam Alliance (ISJA) is a broad-based coalition of non-profit organizations and state The ISJA educates Idahoans through events called Scam Jams.

These interactive conferences are held in communities throughout Idaho and feature presentations by national, regional, and local fraud experts. Scam Jam participants also receive literature and other materials to share with friends and family to help them identify fraud and protect against victimization. The ISJA believes problems are solved when people start talking. By having conversations at t

he community and local level, people are better able to spot and avoid scams. Scam Jams are important because con artists have several ways of stealing hard-earned money, including government imposter scams, phishing scams, tech-support scams, gold coin scams, oil and gas scams, sweepstakes and lottery scams, grandparent scams, and many more. Although their methods are different, research shows that the tactics scammers use are the same. Our Members: AARP Idaho, Better Business Bureau, Boise Police Department, Idaho Department of Finance, Idaho Department of Insurance, State of Idaho Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division; Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advocate, Senior Medicare Patrol, Idaho Commission on Aging, Idaho State Tax Commission, United States Postal Inspection Service, Justice Alliance for Vulnerable Adults, Idaho Legal Aid

Call spoofing is when scammers use software to make you think you are receiving a local call or a call from agencies like Medicare, when really it's someone pretending to be them to get personal information. Be careful when answering calls and never give out your banking or Medicare information to someone who calls.

SMPs are warning about an increased amount of scam calls about chipped Medicare cards. Medicare beneficiaries are reporting calls from "Medicare representatives" or "agents" that are calling to help them get new Medicare cards with a chip in it. These don't exist. This is a scam to steal the Medicare number so they can bill Medicare and get money.

Report these calls to the SMP. Be sure to review your Medicare statements for charges for braces. If you find something, say something.
