Today, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted to advance S.140, the Wildfire Prevention Act, with an amendment from Senator Mike Lee (UT) that would nullify the 2001 Roadless Rule.

But the fight isn't over! The Roadless Area Conservation Act (RACA) is our chance to permanently protect 58 million acres of roadless national forest lands by codifying these protections into law, ensuring they can't be easily undone by future administrations.

Use our link in bio to tell Congress to support RACA and help protect wildlife habitat, clean water, and backcountry recreation opportunities!

You don't need to be a policy expert to be an advocate. Got a favorite trail, backcountry zone, or ski line? That's enough to get started!

Advocacy can look like submitting a comment, showing up at a local meeting, signing up for action alerts, supporting a grassroots group, or simply having a conversation with friends around why a landscape or issue matters to you.

The places we love don't stay protected on their own. They need people who care enough to speak up.

Check out our Advocacy 101 blog for six simple ways to get involved and help protect the places you love.

“If agencies no longer have to minimize the impacts of motorized recreation to water quality, wildlife and other recreationists, we are in danger of degrading the very values of our public lands that draw us there again and again,” John Robison, the Idaho Conservation League’s public lands and wildlife director, wrote. “In the end, everyone will be worse off.”

Trump said the executive orders were overly restrictive, but several conservationists said they protected wildlife, habitat and water.

The Trump administration has rescinded two executive orders that helped guide off-road and over-snow vehicle management on public lands for decades.

These policies were designed to protect wildlife habitat, watersheds, and recreation experiences. Their removal marks a significant shift toward prioritizing motorized access at the expense of ecological integrity.

Winter Wildlands Alliance will continue working with partners to defend wild snowscapes and responsible travel management.

The Trump administration has rescinded two longstanding executive orders that guide federal agencies' management of off-road and over-snow vehicle use on public lands.

Snowmelt is our water supply. 🏔❄️💧 The PERMIT Act and related efforts to weaken the Clean Water Act could leave more streams, wetlands, and headwaters vulnerable to pollution, threatening the rivers, drinking water, and recreation communities rely on.

Together, Winter Wildlands Alliance and our partners at Outdoor Alliance , American Whitewater, Surfrider Foundation, and ACA Paddlesports are working to defend clean water.

As federal funding for public lands shrinks, who steps in to fill the gap? This episode of Trail Break Radio digs into one of the biggest questions facing the future of public lands: as outdoor recreation grows and agency budgets shrink, who will fund the trails, trailheads, staff, stewardship, and protections these places deserve?

Hear from public lands leaders on how recreation is funded now, why the current system is under strain, and whether states, nonprofits, volunteers, and local communities can realistically fill the gaps left by federal funding cuts.

We love to see a packed room for roadless forests! 🌲 Last week in Salt Lake City, roughly 150 people showed up for a Roadless Rule Town Hall to talk about what’s at stake for Utah’s wild, roadless public lands. Shrek even made an appearance, because advocacy can be fun too!

WWA Policy Director Anneka Williams joined partners from Wasatch Backcountry Alliance, Save Our Canyons, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, Stewardship Utah, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, and others to discuss why roadless areas matter for recreation, clean water, wildlife, and our future!

The Roadless Rule DEIS is expected in the coming weeks, and once it drops, there will be a chance to make your voice heard. Stay tuned. Roadless landscapes need us all.
