What are some important kindergarten readiness behaviors my child should know? Your child should be ready not only academically, but physically and socially as well. Observe your child for the following behaviors: Does my child have a basic understanding of school and his/her role in the classroom? Does my child manage clothing independently? Can my child navigate using the restroom and washing hands afterwards? Can my child hold a pencil? Can my child use scissors to cut a circle? Does my child recognize simple AB patterns? Are shapes and colors familiar to my child? Is my child able to kick a ball from a standing position? All these behaviors are examples of social, physical and academic readiness for a kindergarten program. Is your child ready?
