What can I do to prepare my young child for kindergarten and the richness of a classical education? There are many things you can and should do. However, the number one activity to do with young children is to snuggle while reading real books together. The books should be read out loud over a variety of subjects and topics that expand their background knowledge for later use in school. This expands their vocabulary, builds the understanding that print has meaning as well as helps children understand that stories have a beginning, middle and end. In addition, it helps them expand their attention span. All these benefits come from just a few minutes together everyday reading aloud.
