☀️ BEAT THE HEAT: Avoid Heat Exhaustion! ☀️
With June officially here, high temps coming in next week, and the risk of heat-related illness is rising fast. North Spartanburg Fire & Emergency Services wants to make sure you and your family stay safe, hydrated, and healthy while enjoying the outdoors.
Know the signs of Heat Exhaustion and take action before it becomes a medical emergency!
💧 Top Hydration Tips
Don't Wait Until You're Thirsty: If you feel thirsty, you are already mildly dehydrated. Drink water consistently throughout the day.
Stick to Cool Water: While sports drinks have their place for heavy workouts, plain, cool water is the best choice for daily hydration.
Limit Dehydrating Beverages: Cut back on sugary drinks, caffeine, and alcohol if you plan to spend extended time out in the sun.
Keep a Bottle Handy: Keep a reusable water bottle with you during yard work, outdoor sports, or shift work to track your intake.
🛑 Recognize the Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion
If you or someone you are with experiences any of these signs, move to a cool place immediately:
😓 Heavy sweating
🤢 Nausea or vomiting
🥶 Cool, pale, clammy skin
💓 Fast, weak pulse
🌀 Dizziness or lightheadedness
😣 Muscle cramps
🏃♂️ How to Stay Safe in the Heat
Wear Light Clothing: Choose loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothes to help keep your body temperature down.
Seek Shade and Cool Air: Take frequent rest breaks in shaded areas or air-conditioned spaces.
Limit Strenuous Activity: Schedule heavy outdoor chores, landscaping, or intense workouts during the early morning or evening hours when peak heat drops.
