The Boiling Springs Area Rotary Club took primary responsibility over Christmas for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle drive in Boiling Springs.
Over 14 Rotarians rang the Red Kettle bell for 4 consecutive Saturdays at Ingles. One club member, Dr. Shelly Shope, CEO of Pinnacle Classical Academy, arranged for school students to help with the ringing. Another Rotarian, Shannon Hovis, arranged for Gardner-Webb University’s entire Lacrosse team, including Coach Chris Harris, to come ring the Red Kettle bell.
Sgt. Joseph Rodgers of the Salvation Army of Shelby sent the club a thank-you note in recognition of their members’ dedication. His note ends with this comment, “This simple act of kindness can go a long way.”
The Salvation Army provides help with financial needs, especially rent, utilities, and food, and also with spiritual needs through the outreach of its local church. Sgt. Rodgers adds that contributions to the Red Kettle campaign grew significantly in Boiling Springs, thanks to the Rotary Club. Gail Daves, president of the Boiling Springs Area Rotary Club, says, “Our Rotarians are committed to working on behalf of the community and living by Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self.”
