There were 7 members (and 5 possible future members...extremely well behaved grandkids!) at the Spotted Deer this morning celebrating NOT having to go back to school. Disappointingly, all were from Boerne.
We're hoping that our Comfort friends are waiting to come next week, Tuesday Aug 11, 9:30 to Las Palapas (it's always more fun to go somewhere other than the usual).
Please invite a friend or two and come enjoy visiting and talking about vacations and travels and fun activities locally. See you soon!

Join us for our KCRTA annual Back to School Breakfasts “NOT”.
August 4, 2026: 9:30 at The Spotted Deer, 817 Front St., Comfort, TX
August 11, 2026: 9:30 at Las Palapas, 114 Herff Rd, Boerne, TX
What better way to begin a new school year than enjoying a “NOT” Breakfast with other Kendall County retired educators!

LEGISLATION
This Texas Legislative Session is being called the TRS Session. Our Representatives will be deciding on legislation that could affect the future of TRS...OUR Futures as retirees. Texas Retired Teachers will focus on the following priorities.
TRTA Legislative Initiatives for the upcoming TX Legislative Session:
(1) Restore TRS to Actuarial Soundness
(2) Deliver a Meaningful Benefit Enhancement
(3) Fund TRS Care
An explanation of the above, can be found in the TRTA Inside Line publication.
It is important that TRTA maintain and increase membership throughout the state. Representatives know that retired educators vote, so supporting initiatives that benefit us also benefits them in their re-election bids. If you need a membership form, one can be found at the bottom of the newsletter. If you know a new retiree(s) from Comfort or Boerne ISD’s, give them the form and encourage them to join. The more members the better for us being successful in the upcoming Legislative Session. Also, contact your representatives to let them know that you are counting on them to support Texas retired school personnel.

I hope you're all enjoying (surviving!) this sweltering summer weather. Luckily we only have to deal with it a couple more weeks before the humidity will subside and it'll just be hot rather than hot AND humid.
For those new to our area, KCRTA does not meet during June nor July, but we will have our Back to School (NOT!) breakfasts, August 4 in Comfort and Aug 11 in Boerne. Everyone is welcome to come to either or both. Further details will be provided asap.
