Thank you to 17 companies, 28 company representatives, volunteers from all over the state, and over 250 actors who came to audition at the 2026 FPTA Statewide Auditions hosted by Theatre Lab and Florida Atlantic University’s Dept. of Theatre & Dance! We are overwhelmed by the level of talent in our state!

Red letter moment from the end of a long audition day at FPTA when company representatives and board members joined the actors at the dance call! Choreographer Cat Brindisi (Asolo Repertory Theatre) got her colleagues on the stage! Look for Stephanie Lynge, Jason Parrish (Florida Repertory Theatre), Kimberly Suskind Wioncek (Players Circle Theater), TM Pride and Zaylin Yates of Brévo Theatre slaying the combo!

The FPTA Board is pleased to honor our founder and director emerita, Sherron Long, with the newly renamed Fallon-Long Award for Excellence in Professional Theatre.

Originally named for the late Richard G. Fallon (1923-2013), founder of the Asolo/FSU Conservatory and luminary of the regional theatre movement in Florida. The award has honored visionary artistic and management leaders since its creation in the 1980s.

FPTA is honored to both rename the award to include its founder and to honor her as its 2026 recipient. The 2026 statewide audition conference is the 41st such in-person convening.

Sherron Long dedicated her career to arts advocacy and to fostering community, collaboration, and connection among the vibrant professional theatre industry in Florida. Long founded the Florida Professional Theatres Association in 1981 and followed in 1983 by founding the Florida Cultural Alliance, and ran them both for many years - retiring from FPTA in 2022.

Please join the FPTA board in honoring Sherron for her lifetime of advocacy and passion for the arts - especially theatre - and for changing the lives of thousands of actors by giving them a launchpad to hiring opportunities across Florida.

Please join FPTA in honoring the career and legacy of Louis Tyrrell, a titan of Florida Theatre. Our thoughts are with his family, and all the artists and organizations he transformed.

"Louis Tyrrell, one of the core visionaries transforming South Florida theater from safe predictable fare to a birthplace for new plays challenging intellect as well as emotion, died Friday afternoon at the age of 75...As a director, producer, actor, teacher and mentor, Tyrrell founded or co-founded a procession of groundbreaking Palm Beach County companies including Theatre Lab, Arts Garage and Florida Stage (originally known as the Theater Club of the Palm Beaches and later the Pope Theatre Company.)" -Bill Hirschman
