The Capítulo del Exterior of the Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico (CIAPR) was established to serve Puerto Rican engineers and land surveyors residing outside Puerto Rico, particularly those living and working in the continental United States. It provides members with a way to remain connected to their profession, culture, and the CIAPR while advancing engineering excellence.
Its origins date to 2001, when a group of dedicated Puerto Rican professionals in Florida recognized the need for an official chapter that would:
* Maintain professional ties with the CIAPR.
* Promote continuing education and professional development.
* Foster networking among engineers and surveyors living abroad.
* Mentor engineering students and young professionals.
* Strengthen the relationship between Puerto Rico and its engineering community in the United States.
Over the past 25 years (2001–2026), the Capítulo del Exterior has:
* Organized technical conferences, seminars, and continuing education programs.
* Promoted collaboration with engineering organizations throughout Florida and other states.
* Supported scholarships and student initiatives.
* Participated in community service and disaster relief efforts.
* Served as a professional and social network for Puerto Rican engineers and surveyors living outside Puerto Rico.
* Built strong relationships with engineering firms, government agencies, and universities.
The 25th Anniversary, celebrated in Orlando, Florida, in 2026, marks a significant milestone recognizing the vision of the founding members and the dedication of the many officers, directors, committees, volunteers, and members who have sustained the Chapter over a quarter century. It celebrates not only the Chapter’s accomplishments but also its continuing commitment to professional excellence, ethical practice, lifelong learning, and service to the Puerto Rican engineering community wherever its members reside.
This silver anniversary is both a celebration of the Chapter’s legacy and an opportunity to inspire future generations to continue strengthening the bonds between Puerto Rican engineers and surveyors around the world.
