Hate Ends Now: The Cattle Car Exhibit

Hate Ends Now: The Cattle Car Exhibit Combatting antisemitism and all forms of hate. Survivor testimonies. Original Holocaust artifacts.

Hate Ends Now, a project of ShadowLight is an immersive, traveling exhibit that educates audiences about the Holocaust, and the dangers of antisemitism, intolerance, and racism. Housed inside a replica WW2 cattle car, the Hate Ends Now exhibit is a moving immersive museum. Audiences watch a presentation from within the cattle car that is projected in 360 degrees onto the walls around them. Outside

the exhibit participants have the rare opportunity to see first hand a collection of authentic Holocaust artifacts. This unique method brings students outside of the classroom, the cattle car is an accessible, impactful, and unforgettable educational experience in a way that textbooks are not, and perfectly suited to the next generation of audiences. Hate Ends Now is a partnership between ShadowLight & the Darrell English Collection.

There’s something powerful about watching students move from passive learners to active stewards of history.

Assisting with the preservation of Holocaust-era artifacts gave them a direct role in helping safeguarding history for other students and the next generation.

Our visit to Nease was deeply meaningful to us.

The presence of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart Children’s Home, alongside the children they brought to the Hate sends Now cattle car exhibit made a powerful statement of solidarity.

Standing up to hate crosses boundaries and brings communities together.

“Why did the N***s hate the Jews so much?”

A student asked this difficult and direct question yesterday while we were at the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center for Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah).

We explained that it wasn’t about something Jews did. It was rooted in a dangerous ideology that defined certain people as inferior.

This propaganda piece from the Darrell English Original Artifact Collection helped show how that ideology didn't stay contained and expanded to target others who were seen as different.

Creating a space where students feel comfortable and safe asking difficult questions is one of the most important and rewarding parts of what we do.

Amid an alarming rise in antisemitism worldwide, we made the decision to disrupt our tour and drive 1,000 miles to bring the cattle car to the footsteps of the Florida state Capitol as a stark reminder of what happens when hate goes unchecked.

May this International Holocaust Remembrance Day remind us that remembrance without action is not enough.
