Our son, Niklas DiCarlo was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes (T1D) on June 1, 2009 at age 9, after being air-lifted to the... Medical University of South Carolina, and discovered he now has to endure a LIFE LONG disease. He is now dependent on a continuous source of insulin just to remain alive. Each and every day brings a grueling routine of finger pricks, blood glucose tests, measured carbohydrate
s, constant supervision and exercise. A simple cold can throw off the delicate balance of diabetes management. In spite of these challenges and shortcomings, he sustains an incredibly positive attitude – and is determined that a cure will be developed in his lifetime. In the spirit of conquering diabetes, we are proud to announce the creation of the NMD Foundation. The NMD (No More Diabetes) Foundation is a non-profit organization, raising funds for the unrelenting education, treatment, prevention and research to eradicate T1D and fully recognizes The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation/Palmetto Chapter, as its primary charitable organization. Our optimism is that the community, as a whole, and you, will develop a passion as BIG as Niklas’ and ours to lend a hand and “fund” a cure, ultimately eradicating this dreadful disease. A collaborative effort by means of corporate and local sponsors, monetary donations, product donations, raffle and auction items and merely a “drive” to be involved, will aid us in achieving our goal to make diabetes a thing of the past. Let's help cure T1D so diabetic children and parents can finally sleep undisturbed throughtout the night and forever turn off the lights in all JDRF offices worldwide!!
