We're thinking about Choc and his legendary sense of humor today. No particular reason why - just feeling grateful to have sat at his feet in pure joy with him. Thought we'd share a touch of it with the world. Enjoy this sneak peak of his documentary still in production:

WWII Sherman Tank Driver "Choc" Charleston is still in training when the troops get a visit from actress Marilyn Maxwell and musician Kay Kyser. Choc is ordered to give Kay Kyser a tank ride - and does he ever.

At the end of filming our interview last week, Korean War Veteran Fred Forsyth asked, "Can we get this?" - meaning get the back of his sweatshirt on camera. Instead, we captured both his sweatshirt AND a side of this 94-year-old who checked out of hospice to go to a reunion still very much in tact. One word, Fred: Goals. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

One of our favorite weeks of the entire year is spent at the Hamburger Hill Reunion of the 187th Rakkasans. It's a week of laughter, reflection, camaraderie, remembrance and honor. It's a privilege to be among these remarkable men and those that support them. It's a privilege to hear and capture their story - individually, collectively and throughout differing generations of warfighters. God bless them all. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today we had the honor of attending WWII Veteran and proud member of Choctaw Nation, Gilbert "Choc" Charleston's Memorial Service in Duncan, Oklahoma where his ashes were buried alongside those of his wife Billie. In honor of Choc, we have released a few glimpses into the documentary being made about him. You are invited to watch those clips here on his Memorial of Valor page we have lovingly begun curating. Scroll down to "videos" on the left. Please note that these clips are in varying stages of completion, which is not something we would normally share with the world until completed (and there is so much more to come). But on this day of honor, it is fitting that Choc's voice be heard. His legacy is a noble and courageous one, worthy of emulating. And we have been forever blessed to have had his life touch ours. Thank God for this remarkable member of the Greatest Generation. โค ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

81 years ago in a frozen landscape, in the same clothes he had been wearing for more than two weeks, battle-worn and weary Captain Fred A. "Fritz" Owens of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division found a way to write his last letter (of more than 200) to his beloved wife Sara on his birthday, January 1, 1945. The following day, January 2, 1945, he was killed between the villages of Foy and Bizory alongside the railroad line, just outside of Bastogne, while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. For fifty-two years, his memory lived only in Sara's heart until her daughter would discover his trunk in the attic.

Many of us will spend today thinking of the year ahead, pondering resolutions, planning for the future - a whole lifetime away from a foxhole in a frozen landscape. And yet, remembering Fritz changes what it means to be resolute โ€“ to decide firmly on a course of action. It changes understanding of what is worthy of that resolve. 81 years later, it is a gift to think of Fritz on his birthday. It is a gift to have his life give perspective on ours today. It is a gift to remember him, and the men like him, who moved forward with selfless determination, who lived sacrifice, and who embodied honor. May the New Year bring humility, clarity, understanding, determination and integrity all woven through with potent resolve. Happy Birthday, Fritz.

We were thrilled to visit the Sam F. Keziah American Legion Post 535 - Unionville to do a soft โ€œunveilโ€ of their new Hear Our Heroes Valor Collection. Collaborating with them to help ALL veterans tell their story, and helping preserve the memory of those who no longer can, is at the very heart of what we do. Canโ€™t wait to see and hear all the stories they capture for veterans and their families.

Early December, 1944 - Soldiers of the 506th and 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiments, 101st Airborne were readying to play against each other in "The Champagne Bowl" scheduled for Christmas Day. Instead, they would be earning the title "The Battered Bastards of Bastogne." Join us as we sit down with Helen Patton and Michelle Strauss, co-founders of Patton Legacy Sports to discuss "The Game That Never Happened," the upcoming Remembrance Bowl to be played in honor of these soldiers June 4th in Normandy, and Patton's Legacy that continues to this day.
