Our newest intake is a CUTIE!!! He and his sibling were attacked by a fox. Unfortunately his sibling didn’t make it. But he is safe! We stabilized him and started treatment. Once he survived the initial shock we knew he was going to be ok. Today we contacted one of our sanctuaries that is owned by a vet tech. She currently has other goslings and agreed to take this cutie. We transported this baby to her today along with our rescue duckling Dude!!! Both are doing very well and settling in with their new siblings! We will update once this baby has fully recovered. As for Dude (see her story in previous posts), she is walking like she never had an injury!! Have fun with all your new siblings kids!!! 🦆🪿💕

We got an email yesterday from a staff writer at The DoDo. It’s likely you have seen their animal stories on socials. The writer informed us she wrote a piece on the Kohl’s geese for their website. We were surprised our story made it to them, and excited they chose to cover it! Thanks to everyone for sharing our story! 🦆💕

They finally got their babies.

Meet Elizabeth. Her mom reached out to us yesterday for help. She was tearful telling us the story of how Elizabeth’s sister had been taken by a predator tonight’s prior, and that Elizabeth was crying out for her sister and it was heartbreaking. We jumped into action and we are so grateful for our network! We had that little girl at a new home with a flock of ducks within a few hours. Thank you Heather for helping us save so many babies. Happy life with your new flock Elizabeth!!! 🦆💕

Another goose with fishing line around its leg. If you fish, please be mindful of what you may be leaving behind, and take it with you. Also seen here are pictures of fishing line/trash we saw on the bank of this lake. (zoom in). When fishing line gets wrapped around a leg/wing/bill/neck/etc it cuts off blood supply to the area slowly cutting through tissue/flesh/bone until the limb eventually falls off or the animal starves to death or dies, depending on where the line is. This process is slow and painful for the animal (duck, goose, eagle, turtle, or otherwise). If you see a one legged goose, it is very likely this is what happened. Please consider using dissolvable fishing line. Lead weights are also a problem as they are causing lead toxicity in almost 50% of our bald eagles, and affecting many other species in our environment. Fish swallow the weights and free themselves from the hook, then the bald eagles/ducks/cormorants/etc eat the fish. After consuming several fish the lead level increases in the bird until it reaches toxicity. Please consider joining us on our Missouri Stream Teams, or join any team you would like, or start your own team!!! As always, we are here if you have questions! 🦆💕

We have an update on the goose we helped this weekend. The one we had been tracking for a month. Our volunteer Gail Price is a praying woman. She lives a few miles from the location where we did the rescue. She has been praying the goose would start coming to her house so she can keep an eye on him. He is literally there RIGHT NOW!!! We had a video call because she wanted me to see so I could verify it is him. It IS!!! We have pictures to prove it!!! The spray bandage we used on him is silver. His gait continues to improve and we are beside ourselves this happened!!!
