Behind every mission are people who believe in it wholeheartedly, and today we want to introduce you to two of the women helping lead the work of North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network!
🖤 MEET ANJELICA GIBSON | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Anjel has been with NGMCN for a little over two years, bringing with her a passion for serving others, strengthening our community, and advocating for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault.
Coming from a background in courtroom advocacy, Anjel says her favorite part of this work is watching survivors find their voice again.
"I've welcomed survivors through our doors when all they needed was someone to hold them and let them cry. I've stood beside a child in front of a mirror as we practiced words of self-worth together. And I've watched women stand in a courtroom across from someone who abused them for years and finally use the voice they thought they had lost. Those moments stay with you. Sometimes all it takes is one person who believes in you, listens, and reminds you that you don't have to do this alone."
One thing Anjel wishes more people understood is that domestic violence and sexual assault happen in our own communities far more often than we realize. Abuse does not discriminate. It knows no boundaries of age, income, education, or background.
To Anjel, NGMCN isn't just an organization. It's a place where survivors can heal, rebuild, rediscover their strength, and begin again.
🖤 MEET TAYLOR JOHNSON | ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Taylor has been part of the NGMCN family for almost three years!
With an educational background in criminology and a heart for advocating for those in need, Taylor was drawn to this work through her desire to support survivors, raise awareness, and help create a safer, more informed community.
Her favorite part of the job? Witnessing the resilience of survivors and watching them succeed after some of the darkest moments of their lives.
"There is something incredibly powerful about watching someone begin to heal, regain their confidence, and move forward after experiencing so much. Their strength and determination are constant reminders of why this work matters."
One thing Taylor wishes more people understood is the cycle of abuse.
Abuse isn't always physical, and leaving isn't always as simple as walking away. Manipulation, isolation, fear, financial dependence, threats, and promises of change can make it incredibly difficult for someone to leave an abusive relationship.
Taylor believes that understanding these complexities is an important part of replacing judgment with compassion and helping survivors feel safe enough to reach out for support.
To Taylor, NGMCN represents the impact that can be made across every part of our organization. From outreach and emergency shelter to sexual assault services and crisis intervention, every survivor has a story, and every story matters.
"The stories of the survivors we serve remind me why this organization exists. Their courage, resilience, and determination to move forward leave a lasting impact on those of us who have the privilege of walking alongside them."
💜 TWO WOMEN. ONE SHARED MISSION.
While their journeys into this work may be different, Anjel and Taylor share the same belief: every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, supported, and given the opportunity to rebuild their life.
Behind every program, community partnership, grant, fundraiser, and long day is a mission that goes far beyond the walls of our organization. And neither of these women would tell you that this work happens because of them alone.
It happens because of the dedicated staff who show up every day, the advocates who answer the calls, the volunteers who give their time, the board members who believe in the mission, and the donors, sponsors, and community partners who make these services possible.
Thank you for allowing us to serve this incredible community and for standing alongside survivors with us. Because sometimes changing a life begins with something as simple as showing someone they are not alone. 💜
