Snack in a Backpack Snack in a Backpack is a nonprofit organization founded in April of 2009 to help feed food-insecure children

The mission of the Snack in a Backpack program is to reduce the burden of childhood hunger in Fannin County by providing food insecure families a weekend and school vacation food assistance program. Volunteers pack over 400 bags with food and deliver them to the schools each week. Children who receive their meals at school and have little or nothing to eat on the weekends and during school vacatio

ns receive bags of nutritious, non-perishable food such as cereal, milk, juice, fruit, granola bars, soup and beef stew. The cost to Snack in a Backpack to prepare these bags is $3.00 per bag. We meet these costs through donations and through our partnership with Feeding America and are able to purchase the majority of our food through our affiliation with the Chattahoochee Food Bank. Snack also raises money through grants and fundraising efforts.

It feels good to be back in our weekly rhythm. We’re also back to receiving our weekly donation from our friends at Mercier Orchards, along with a special donation from Feed Fannin this week: a pallet of chicken pouches and tangerines. Thank you so much to our partners! 🍎🍊

We will need the community's help to fund food purchases for the entire 2026–2027 school year. Every donation helps make sure there's food to pack and bags to deliver!

How are we already starting the 2026/2027 school year?! 🤯

✅We are prepped and ready to resume packing on Aug. 19 at 9:30am
✅The schools are collecting family forms and finalizing their numbers
✅In the meantime, we will assemble Teacher Bags filled with classroom snacks for all the schools on Aug. 12 at 9:30am
✅We are buying A LOT of food in anticipation of record-high numbers this year!

Summer Meals was a sprint, now in the rearview. Our regular program is a community-wide marathon with a long road ahead. Donations of any size are needed and very much appreciated to keep the shelves stocked and children fed this school year. The final Summer Meals deliveries went out yesterday! This program is a sprint, and our volunteers carried us across the finish line yet again! 500 children and their families were nourished each week... 48,350 meals were provided in just eight weeks! 1,662 total volunteer hours were logged this summer. WOW!

This is what community looks like. Thank you all so much for showing up for our children during this fast-paced season! ❤ Now we reset and prepare for the school year ahead. Onward!!

Some kids leave school on Friday not knowing where their next meal will come from.

That's why Snack in a Backpack exists. 🍎

Every week, this incredible organization provides food to local students facing food insecurity, helping ensure they have something to eat until they return to school on Monday.

They also have a summer meals program that helps families while school is out. ❤️‍🩹

This cause is especially meaningful to us because Grumpy's owner, Jeff, helps pack their food every week and has seen firsthand the impact this program has on local children and their families.

This year, we're proud to support their mission through the First Annual Grumpy Games on September 6. 🏆
