The Fannin County 4-H/FFA Livestock Show Team is looking for people to start showing cattle! Animals can be housed at the new Fannin County School System Agriculture Facility Cattle Barn, and Livestock Team advisors Rhonda Mathews and Kate Phillips will help you get an animal to lease. Sponsors can be located to help secure feed. You will also be taught everything you need to know about showing cattle. This opportunity is open to students in 4th to 12th Grades in the 2026-2027 school year. Animals will be shown at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, GA in October. Today is the first day of $4 for 4-H 🍀 Support Fannin County 4-H by giving $4 (or more) to help support 4-H programing in our county! New this year, this a four day event, but our goal is to get 24 donors and turn our county green on the state wide map. The link to give is below.

Don't forget to join Fannin County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers in collaboration with Fannin County Young Farmer Association this Saturday, March 14 from 10 AM to Noon at the Fannin County Agricultural Facility for our 2nd class of the Beginning Garden Series. The topic will be understanding seed packets, plant labels, and planting scheduling with Ginger Montgomery from Quinn’s Greenhouse and Nursery. This weekend, 6 Fannin County 4-H'ers attended Northeast District Junior/Senior District Project Achievement at Rock Eagle 4-H Center! These 6 students have spent the past few months working hard on their projects and had the opportunity to present those this weekend.

We are excited to announce the opportunity to become a Fannin County Master Gardener Extension Volunteer.

The Master Gardener Extension Volunteer (MGEV) program in Georgia is a volunteer program designed to help University of Georgia Cooperative Extension staff transfer research-based information about gardening and related subjects to the public by training home gardeners to be volunteer educators. Master Gardener Extension Volunteers are active in many Georgia counties. Through this program, Extension is able to reach out and serve more citizens with educational programming and demonstrations.

UGA Extension Fannin County is looking for MGEV Trainees to assist in the following consumer horticulture projects:
• Adult education programs
• School garden education
• Local demonstration garden
• Seed library

Training will begin April 7, 2026. This will be a joint training between Gilmer and Fannin counties. You are expected to volunteer in the county which you apply in. There are eight total classes. The first four classes will be held in Gilmer County, and the last four will be held in Fannin County. Classes are held from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesdays. Cost to train is $275 and this covers program fees and materials. The training fee is due after you are selected to train. Applications are due February 13, 2026, but you can submit sooner! Class size is extremely limited.

🐔Fannin County 4-H Poultry Judging begins February 2nd🐔
Have you ever seen your poultry and eggs in the grocery store labeled as Grade A? Come check out the 4-H Poultry Judging Team and learn how to grade chickens and eggs.

This year, we will have two different time options for practices, come to the one that fits your schedule best!
Monday Practice- 5:30-7 PM
Wednesday Practice- 3:30-5 PM

Practice starts the week of February 2

Practices will be held once a week until the contest on April 23rd.
