Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities-RTMC

Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities-RTMC Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April) was inspired by members of the Association of Building Contractors in the San Bernardino Mountains.

This year, Rebuilding Together volunteers made a meaningful impact on 3 homes and 1 community center, sparking renewed energy and vitality in the neighborhood.

Project 4, focused on the Crest Forest Senior Citizens' Club, a vital hub for seniors. Together, volunteers revitalized the space by painting interior walls, tackling yard work, and hauling away 3 dumpsters full of green waste. This outpouring of support not only beautified the club but also demonstrated the power of community coming together to uplift its own.

This year, Rebuilding Together breathed new hope into 3 homes and a community center, unlocking the potential for residents to flourish.

Home number 3 in Green Valley Lake was referred to Rebuilding Together after the water company discovered a hidden leak. A team of skilled tradespeople and volunteers rallied together, replacing the water heater and furnace, repairing the front deck and roof, and transforming the yard into a welcoming space.

This year, Rebuilding Together brought new life to 3 homes and one community center, empowering residents to thrive.

Take home number 2 in Crestline, CA, where a dedicated homeowner of 33 years saw her property transformed. Overgrown weeds gave way to a tidy exterior, damages in the asphalt driveway were filled, and the bathroom underwent essential repairs, including drywall fixes, making it safer and more beautiful.

On this year's Rebuilding Day, our volunteers made significant progress, transforming three homes and one community center.

At House one, located in Valley of Enchantment, we gave a long-time resident's home a major upgrade, after 42 years of ownership. The project included a complete electrical overhaul and rewriting of the house, removal of a hazardous tree, deck repair, and a fresh coat of paint under the kitchen cabinets, ultimately making her home safer, warmer, and more accessible. We had a great team on-site !

I want to share something that brings the greatest feeling: the spirit of volunteering to help our neighbors in the mountain community. Rebuilding Together embodies this every year on Rebuilding Day, which takes place on the last Saturday in April.

We begin each year by accepting applications from low-income homeowners who need repairs on their homes. Our goal is to keep these homes warm, safe, and dry, all at no cost to the homeowners. Each year, contractors, skilled craftsmen, and volunteers work together to make the dreams of our neighbors come true. Nonprofits like ours need a financial cushion to operate year after year, so we must prioritize our needs to stay within our budget.

If you aren’t selected for assistance this year, we encourage you to apply again next year. If your needs are urgent, you may qualify for our Emergency Repair Program, which has its own budget.

We specifically help seniors in our mountain community, low-income families, and veterans. That’s why we are committed to supporting our local senior center and improving it in any way we can. With this years community project at the Crest Forest Senior Citizens' Club

As a member of the community, we invite you to take advantage of our help and support our efforts to assist those in need.

We would also like to highlight our long-serving secretary, Sue Parks, who is incredibly empathetic. Each year, Sue receives numerous calls from people outside our service area, from Cedarpines Park to Green Valley Lake. She listens to these individuals and offers comfort, suggesting possible resources in their communities. Sometimes, just having someone to talk to is enough for them to feel hopeful, and they hang up having found a new friend.

To donate or request further information. Feel free to call our office or reach out via email.

This year, Rebuilding Together Mountain Community will be working on three houses. Thanks to the high interest from volunteers for Rebuilding Day, we reached out to the Crest Forest Senior Citizens’ Club to see if we could use our volunteers to assist them. We are excited that they will be our community project this year, and we hope to take on even more community projects in the future.

While we have plenty of volunteers for the project, we would greatly appreciate any supplies that the community can donate, such as:

- Paint rollers

- Paint brushes

- Tape

- Disposable plastic tarps

Please call the senior center to make a drop off appointment. 909-338-5036

Additionally, we welcome donations through our website at www.rtmc.build for future community projects planned for next year.

Thank you for your support in beautifying our local mountain and for helping these non-profit organizations in any way you can.

My family would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your incredible kindness in choosing our parents’ home this year…did a beautiful job paving their driveway, and now it is so much safer for them to walk down. We appreciate it more than you will ever know…This organization is a God-send to so many!…Most sincerely… M.A.

I share…this to let you know, as I said yesterday how much of a relief you and your workers are to us. Please let them know how thankful we are. And you got on those needs so fast and the workers responded. We are blessed! May God bless you all, D.W.

From J.H. – Crestline

I don’t know how I can thank you enough for my new generator…I can’t get my feelings to show with just words. So I think I’ll share with you my story of Thanksgiving and Christmas. As you probably know, we saw record snowfall on both holidays. First Thanksgiving…I was taking a shower in the morning…Right in the middle of it, the power went out. Needless to say, fumbling around in the dim light in a slippery shower is not safe for me at all…it had…been out for hours…I had to go to bed with my down jacket, hat and gloves on. It’s too hard for me to get extra blankets out of the cupboard and spread them on the bed…I was very cold and didn’t sleep…After almost 24 hours with no heat, my house was 42 degrees. My phone line was out. I couldn’t call anyone for help. Second, Christmas…The power went out twice on the 26th…out again on the 27th…Wayne Palmer came to visit me and check on me in January around the same time as the power outage on the 7th. He heard about the trouble I was having staying warm and…within a very short time…the RTMC board…agreed to put in a generator for me…The generator is in, thanks to Wayne and his sons, and now I can rest easy knowing I won’t ever have to go through another experience where I’m cold and in the dark because of a power outage. God bless All of you. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
