What a day to remember! 🏙️✨ Blue Cap individuals rode downtown to take in the beautiful Chicago skyline before stepping into — where they explored Korean National Treasures and breathtaking art from China, Japan, and Korea. And the highlight? Special tickets to Matisse’s Jazz: Rhythm in Color. 🎨

🔆🔆🔆🔆Volunteer Spotlight: Karina Shimkos 🌱🎨

Karina, a teacher from District 207, recently stopped by with seedlings grown by her students. It was such a thoughtful gift and a wonderful reminder of the community connections that help Blue Cap grow.

Karina has also shared her creativity with the people we serve through art workshops, and we are truly grateful for her continued friendship and support.

Thank you for always thinking of Blue Cap!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who joined us yesterday at our Celebration Garden Brick Dedication. 🌿✨ There is something truly special about coming together as a community to pause and remember — and yesterday was exactly that. We took time to reflect on those we have lost this past year, to share in the grief and the gratitude, and to honor the everlasting impact these beautiful individuals will always have on Blue Cap and everyone who walks through our doors. We are so lucky to have a community that shows up for each other the way you do. 💙

⚡ D’Shawn brought the energy (literally) to the 12th Annual Switch on Summer at Buckingham Fountain this past Saturday! ⛲️
As a ComEd Efficiency Ambassador, he shared summer energy tips, handed out swag, and was an amazing rep for Blue Cap and our Employment Services — all while the city celebrated live music, food, family fun, and the official fountain turn-on for the season. ☀️🎶
Energy Tip Tuesday is coming back next week, but today is all about D’Shawn. Way to go! 🙌🌟

The Springfield trip was a success — and we have some special people to thank! 💛 A big thank you to the Blue Cap Family & Friends Association for their generous sponsorship. When you support the Rose Walk, you’re directly funding incredible opportunities and outings just like this one. (P.S. — save the dates went out, so keep an eye out! 🌹) We also want to give the biggest shoutout to our staff — Jenay, Michael, and Nefertiti — for their planning, support, and dedication in making it all happen. We couldn’t do it without you!

⚡️ Energy Tip Tuesday | May 5, 2026 ⚡️

Warmer weather = higher energy bills. 😅 But not if D’Shawn has anything to say about it! He’s back with spring and summer appliance efficiency tips as a ComEd Energy Efficiency Ambassador through Blue Cap’s Employment Services program. Share this with someone who needs it! 👇

We’re proud to share that Blue Cap Intern Alicia Resendez was selected as Moraine Valley Community College's 2026 Intern of the Year! 🎉

Selected from a field of 72 interns placed with more than 50 companies, this is an incredible and well-earned honor!

Since joining our Development Team in January, Alicia has brought creativity, professionalism, and care to every project she’s touched. From supporting design and development initiatives to redesigning evacuation maps for all eight of Blue Cap's residential homes, her contributions have been thoughtful and important.

We’re also honored that Blue Cap was nominated for 2026 Internship Employer of the Year — recognition we’re proud to share as a team and a reflection of how much we value mentorship, life long learning, and community partnership.

Alicia, we truly couldn’t be prouder.

Thank you for sharing your talent to benefit the people we serve at Blue Cap, and thank you to Moraine Valley for recognizing such an exceptional student.

Your future is bright, and we’re grateful to have been part of this chapter. 💙

We highly recommend Alicia to any organization seeking a hardworking, talented individual who cares deeply about their community.

If you know of an opportunity, we’d be glad to connect you with Alicia.
